Who should fight for the interim at HW?

I don’t think it’s super clear.

i think black beast should be in there if he wins.

Jones wants Stipe if he ever fights again.

Stipe is the greatest UFC HW ever.

This will be another title shot he just waited for.
 
Stipe and somebody else. The UFC wants Jones. If he prices himself out this time just shelve him for the remainder of his contract. If Gane wants it, I have no problem with that. If Lewis beats Tai, then he deserves consideration as well. And Tai as a sudden contender if he KOs Lewis.

But Stipe/Jones is probably ideal in the most ways, imo.

Ummmm.. The champ is out at least through the remainder of the year. And I personally don’t think he will ever fight in the octagon again. Should the UFC just shut down the whole fucking division because you’re sick of Interim titles?

This is literally exactly what an Interim title was invented for.

These fucking titles need to be defended once every six months. That’s what is bullshit. Once a year is fucking stupid and killing any momentum within these divisions.

I think the first interim was made to initiate the champions clause on reunification of the belt to extend Ngannou's contract. From what I've read about the contracts the champions clause isn't for every title defense. So if that's the case then the rush for the interim during Ngannou's contract dispute was to extend the champions clause. I don't think they can do that again.

Most likely they will wait and see how things play out with Ngannou and choice he makes. If Ngannou leaves UFC they'll just have fighters fight for a vacant belt and skip the interim belt.
 
They need to figure out if Francis is ever fighting for UFC again. If he's gonna fight again, there should be no interim belt. If he's not gonna fight again, there should be some sort of 4 man tournament for the vacant belt. Still no need for an interim.

The UFC has tried to renegotiate the contract. Exactly how long are they supposed to wait until they KNOW if Ngannou will re-sign? It only makes sense to have plan B already in effect. They will have an IC to take the full title if Ngannou walks. And they will have the next challenger in place if he does return sometime in early 2023. This is all common sense and good business.

A tournament.. Really?? Just leave the title vacant for several months? That’s ridiculous.

They need to figure it out right away. Not prolong it. If he doesn't resign soon, strip him and move on with a tourny. If he resigns soon, then wait until he's healthy and have his next title fight. No need for an interim. He's either coming back to fight or he isn't, figure it out.

I don’t think it’s that black and white. They will probably try to renegotiate right up until December. They won’t know if he accepts the new contract unless he does. But they can’t just wait. Plan B dictates an interim title fight in July.. Right in time for international fight week. This is incredibly clear and obvious.
 
Interm belt is pointless but if that gets jon or stipe to fight again then that's fine by me.

Personally I don't think either guy deserves to fight for the belt considering they have been inactive. If they want to make it as legitimate as possible it should be ganes versus whoever, since he was the last guy to fight for the belt and he's been active this entire time
 
Jones probably wants it vs Stipe but you know if that happens and he wins he's going to duck Ngannou and Gane like crazy.

I get why they need to have a HW title fight from the business point of view. They want a big fight, it's HW, so there needs to be a belt on the line to sell it as big. I'm just talking from the point of view where I don't give a shit if a belt is on the line. If Francis is coming back, he's the champ, if he's not coming back, someone else should be. I don't care about having a placeholder if/when he comes back. I'm going to watch Stipe vs Jones, or Jones vs BB, or Stipe vs Gane, or Gane vs. Tua, or whatever... Putting an interim on those fights is purely marketing, which I understand from a making money point of view. It's just dumb. Somebody is the champ, right now its Francis, and if he's not going to defend again, it should be someone else, and if he is going to defend again, it should be whoever beats him. Interim is dumb. It would be one thing under special circumstances, but they do an interim like every other month now.
 
If Derrick Lewis beats tai, Stipe vs Jones
If tai beats Derrick, Jones vs tai. That sounds like a weird/shitty matchup but it would make the most sense.
Derrick just got annihilated vs gane.
Gane just lost to Francis
Stipe lost to Francis but he is now 1-1 and was the champ
Jones is undefeated.
Tai is the only one on a streak.
If Derrick wins, It could be justifiable to give him Jones for the interim instead of stipe I suppose seeming how he had beaten two contenders and stipe is coming off a loss, but besides those three match ups nothing else makes sense.
 
dont think that HW needs another interim fight, but definitely would like to see -
Stipe vs Gane
Jones vs winner of Blaydes vs Tuivasa or (Gustafsson vs Rothwell).

eventually -

Stipe-Gane winner vs Ngannou
(If Ngannou still out) -
Stipe-Gane winner vs Jones vs Black Beast / Tuivasa winner for interim.
