Have we seen any other fighter or any fight that has flipped the script like this? I can't remember.

Also, I am enjoying it more because it has made

1. Dana pissed off, always happy to see Dana getting pissed off.
2. Hype train derailed, UFC push going to drain. No offence to Gane because he is a great guy.
3. Ferand Lopez in mud.

Despite being a boring fight (even though I didn't notice because I was more worried & intrigued about Ngannou regarding how he turns around) I am ready to pay $75 for this kind of fights more (even though I don't have to cause UFC PPV come free with my Sony Liv subscription.)

Say about flipping the script man.

I mean too be fair this fight did clearly expose weaknesses in cardio and striking technique in Francis but his opponent didnt exploit them well and he readjusted much better than vs Stipe and Lewis.

That turn around itself is a story from a fairytale that we couldn't have imagined in our wildest dream even a day ago. If you look at this fight in the grand scheme of things, you will never whine about this fight being boring.

If such an evolution of a fighter ( it's like 180') doesn't keep you hooked then you were not a fight fan to begin with.

I'd agree it was a definate supprise, I mean Francis turning to grappling wasnt entirely unexpected, I think quite a few people suspected he might if he didnt come out ontop in the opening 2 rounds but how well it worked was a bit of a supprise considering how tired he looked.

Honestly I think this is probably something Francis though take on, it seems to me that technical striking matches are a bigger cardio drain than grappling.

Yeah, Francis didn't prove to have good cardio or good striking. He just fought someoner who was afraid to exploit his obvious flaws. At one point Francis was moving in slow motion. Prime Cain would had ended this guy's physical well being.

Translation: I’m in my feelings right bow

I would like to see you moving freely & fluidly with an MCL & a possible ACL fracture. Those shin guards weren't fashion accessories. Francis didn't wear them to show off.

GANE is the real champion. Robbery decision against our guy Gane

Sober up. Francisco was gassed after half a round.
And knowing a Judo trip after years and years of Training in mma on supposedly highest level shouldnt impress anyone.

I wasn't blown away. Was there live. Francis looked very tired two rounds in but found another gear in 4 and 5. I don't feel like I was watching the greatest HW ever tonight and I didn't feel like I was watching some super evolved form of MMA that didn't exist 10-20 years ago.

You forget that Francis can take a lot of punishment. He went 5 rounds with Stipe completely gassed out and ineffective. He could barely stand and ate a lot of Stipe's best shots flush.

To be fair though I actually see that as one of the best style matchups for Francis of the all time greats just because I think Cain's striking defence was always a bit dodgy, even a prime Cain could I think get blasted out fast and Francis does have decent take down defense.

I see Francis weakness being more technical strikers who carry more power than Gane and guys who can go long grappling wise bringing strong sub games.

Unfortunately this 100 percent accurate..

It really was. People will shit on it because they did not predict it. Francis doing anything and everything for the win and not being reckless. I see Kamaru Usman rubbing off on him. Also Kamaru Usman is the another script flipping fighter I can think of.

One measly uppercut to Cain’s jaws shattered his knees. He wouldn’t stand a chance with Francis in his prime

Yeah, Gane definitely should have pushed at that moment late 2d/early 3d.
He let him get his second wind, and recover. That was really bad strategically...

I don't see that as a " hype train " derailed. He still got the better of most exchanges and was more threatening on the ground too.
If anything it just proved Francis is much better on the other aspects of MMA than people were giving him credit for.
And his super strength clearly helped him a lot in the ground exchanges

Weakness in cardio... For a heavy weight Francis cardio looked great for 25 minutes, so much better than it ever has.

He fought the most technical striker in UFC history, and he didn't look fantastic on the feet. Shocking!
