The best acquisition the UFC could make in the near future...Bajrang Punia!!

Has he ever said anything about MMA? I doubt that would ever happen, especially right now that he is still so successful in wrestling.

He is an amazing wrestler though. He just ran through some of the best guys in the world recently in a tournament.

Indians are too soft and peaceful to train UFC for the just bleed god
That is usually the case but this guy is one of the best wrestlers in the world. He's unbelievably good. He would absolutely ragdoll a lot of fighters in the cage. Unfortunately, his country and team would probably never let him take that risk because he is so successful already in wrestling. They are not going to give up a sport where he sits at the top to go try some whole new fringe American sport.

Honestly I can't recall him mentioning MMA, and I have to admit I took 5 years as "near future", but I think it would be smart to court him. Throw money at him honestly. Send him somewhere like Tiger Muay Thai in Phuket or Evolve in Singapore, (relatively) close and got great MMA and striking training.

I was gonna give you a like, but I'm out of likes so....*like*.

He's a stud wrestler from India, would be a great way to really grow in that market I imagine. Not just some Indian fighter, but a dude with high-level combat sports credentials.
They have a strong wrestling tradition so could do well if there was enough funding behind it. They need to bring in some worldclass trainers and start cultivating talent.

In the early 20th century the Catch wrestling world champion was the legendary Great Gama.

They seem more into doing TMA nowadays though like Keralipayattu, with light sparring using live blades and no protection...which doesn't always work out so well.

I mean, since we didn't get to see Jordan Burroughs in MMA, this could be the next best thing....

Ritu Phogat is already out there ticking the 'successful Indian Wrestler in MMA' box.
Ritu is also a 'she' so add to 'Indian Market' to the legendary 'Thirsty Indian Social Media Guy' following that automatically comes with having to X chromosomes, and well...

Well, I just looked up his age and he is about to turn 27 in February. I am pretty sure he is doing the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. The next Olympics would be in 2024 and he would be 30 years old by that time. It would be great to see him start training in Thailand after these upcoming Olympic Games or the next. I just don't see it happening. He is India's crown jewel right now. Probably one of their best athletes of any sport right now. They will not give that up until they have squeezed all the juice out of his wrestling potential. Maybe when he is past his prime as a wrestler in a few years (and effectively can't make the Olympic or World team) that would be the most likely time we would see him cross over but at that point the motivation might not be there.

I've always wondered if the aversion to beef in particular and meat in general in the Indian diet has some impact on their success athletically. I mean, there's definitely other factors at play - such as the stronger emphasis on education over sport, money involved in sports development, the stranglehold cricket has - but in my Mad Scientist fantasy I'd like to see how this dietary change would affect their performance on a large scale.
