Prior to the War for Independence, Jews lived in Sheik Jarrah on lands they had purchased. During the War, the Jews in that area fled and Jordan was left in control and took ownership of the land and homes following the Armistice.

The Jordanian Office for the Property of Enemy Combatants awarded long term leases, and in some cases actual title to these homes.

Since Israel took control of the area, the Israelis have continued to honor the titles and leases granted by Jordan. Rent is paid to the Jewish owners.

But many of these leases have been up for a while, and lawsuits have been winding their way slowly through the Israeli courts. The process is coming to an end.

Israel has made it so that there can be no viable Palestinian state, because Israel has been constantly expanding and pushing Palestinians off their land.

Just prior to this recent flare up, Israel was evictiing more Palestinians from the West Bank. Israel has created a patchwork of settlements in the West Bank, so there really is no way to have a Palestinian State. Israel does not want a Palestinian State, because that would force them to stop stealing land and giving it to Jewish settlers.

Here’s a concept. Why can’t the Palestinians have a state with Jews in it? Mandela didn’t demand whites leave South Africa, did he?

Hard to support Israel when they're throwing tear gas into mosques and bombs into neighborhoods. Unfair to call this a "conflict" at all, that'd imply there were two relatively equal opposing forces.

Perhaps Palestinian Terrorists should have considered this when they targeted Israeli schools and residential areas with rocket attacks.

Perhaps they did, and the collateral damage would be used for headlines across the world to point blame at Israel.

If it were up to me the international community would get together and grind Israel down to the nubs until it was forced to settle. Put them under heavy sanctions, trade embargo, travel embargo - make them a pariah state and cripple their economy until they’re forced to change course.
