NHL 24/25 - Still did better than Vancouver

How much space do they have? You'd imagine at the very least Kane has to be going the other way. Is there a market for a healthy Evander Kane, let alone a injured one?

Yeah I'm not sure how they were going to make it work. Kane is on LTIR until playoffs so that wouldn't have been an issue for this year.

I assumed it was probably trading Hyman and using Kane's LTIR space. Then for next year the cap increases and they try to offload Kane. They apparently had at least one team interested in him at the deadline, but Kane could black trades to 16 teams until summer.

Yeah but it's not this year they're concerned about. I don't think anyone was really really interest about Moose as a rental. Except possibly Dallas because they were so deep into the negotiation

Wouldn't have been hard for them to have the cap room for next year I don't think (trade Hyman, Kane, Jeff Skinner contract gone, cap increase). They were indeed offering a lot of money for an extension. A bit more than Dallas was I heard. But, if they did, I don't see how they could've extended Bouchard.

edit: Actually Hyman has a NMC like a lot of their players lol.

Sorry I missed this. Do you like this move? Could it potentially block some guys like Nemec or Casey (not sure when Silayev is supposed to come over)

In hindsight Montreal probably should have kept him and traded Savard away, but it’s not a franchise altering blunder or anything. They wanted to get younger and keep rebuilding but none of the RHD prospects could take his open spot this year- Barron wasn’t good enough and traded for Carrier who is better (Barry Trotz goat gm) Mailloux needs to keep improving defensively and Reinbacher got hurt in preseason and missed half the year (playing very well in the AHL now though)

I think Habs are going to end up using Mailloux as trade bait in the off-season.

I think so too actually. They have 7 picks in the first 3 rounds next draft, could package him with some picks they need another NHL ready C really bad. He’s definitely good enough for the next level offensively but gets lost sometimes on the other end. I’m not opposed to keeping him around though

I remember reading that they could after Ryan O’Reilly as a stopgap until Hage is NHL and with the cap increasing his salary isn’t bad.

It's a fine deal if he continues at the current level. I'm relatively sure that they trade Nemec and/or Casey for a forward next season, they are not really happy with either of them right now. I just hope it is a good trade for once.

Yeah, I think the Habs can live with their decision. It's not like everyone knew that he would still improve at 26-27.

Save of the year, but how is that not goaltender interference?

Holy shit, Ekblad got suspended 20 games for PED's. I didn't even think they really tested guys anymore.

Gary Bettman trying to hold us down again. This is why we stand.

How is he holding down? He's given a guy a holiday and he'll be back in time for the playoffs. It's enforced LITR cheating. The good thing is it happened after the trade deadline... Imagine the shenanigans otherwise
