Canada allowed 5 years of university athletics when I was a student. If you did graduate school in the US, after running in Canada for 4 years, you could do one year in the NCAA but the Canadian school had to 'release' you with a letter to allow you to run in the US. On the flip side you could run one year at a Canadian school after 4 yrs in the NCAA. I have no idea how it works now with all of the changes to NCAA eligibility - LOL. Pretty sure you still just get 5 years of athletics in Canada.
