Losing the Brunson Burner was not a good day. He makes right decisions more often than not and has a winning pedigree that started in college. I would not be surprised to see him get a ring at some point. Its easy to forget key details though, like that he is too small to play defense. Mavs basically replaced Brunson with Kyrie who is more potent offensively anyway. It was the loss of Brunson that spurred on the Mavs to basically retool almost the entire roster. Of that Mavs team that went to the conference finals, the only remaining players are Luka, THJ, Green, Kleber, and Dwight. The other 10 guys are all post-Brunson era and the squad on balance is way better.

What are you both basing the defensive ability as being the main reason for choosing Kyrie over Brunson? Last I checked, Brunson was statistically a better defender in terms of defensive rating and equal in other metrics. I’m just curious.

This Knicks version of Brunson id argue is better than Kyrie atm. Also throw in the fact Kyrie is injury prone and I’d still take Brunson over him. Now the key is if he would have reached this level if he had stayed and played second fiddle to Luka. Guess we’ll never know.
