I wonder why those teams didn’t try to get him if that’s all it required.
Because he's a rental and you need cap space for next season. Pelicans have a ton of picks too, so maybe the Pacers were asking for more premium picks.

In the Lakers’ case they aren’t looking long term and are in the Win now phase though. They could have spun something for him

Love these two moves for my Mavs, giving up Grant, Seth, Holmes (who we took on for free with the OMax pick), and a 1st for Gafford and PJ is a huge win (looks like Charlotte is sending a couple of 2nds to Washington to complete that deal)

The Grant signing was already looking like a bust, I go to a bunch of games and he’s just got bad energy - looks like he annoys the hell out of his teammates and he’s constantly getting into it with the other team over stupid shit. Already one of my least favorite Mavs along with Antoine Walker and Rondo (we need to stay away from the Celtics)

Gafford gives us some interior D and rebounding that we desperately need (I love Lively but he’s been injury prone and gets taken out of games early with foul trouble quite a bit) and PJ who easily replaces Grant’s (lack of) scoring and is a bigger body/more versatile guy on D

The record isn’t showing it yet but I really like what the shoe salesman is doing, we didn’t have a lot of assets and he’s completely turned the roster over in the past year and if nothing else we’ve gotten younger and a lot more athletic

Great move by the Knicks rescuing Bojan. Surprised OKC hasn't gotten a big yet

This is a W for the Mavs. Holmes is not good like I’ve said when he was added to the roster and Gafford is decent and should add good depth at center behind Lively.

The Grant Williams trade is a bad one IMO. It’s funny how bad he has been recently and he should have been utilized for his defense but giving up a 1st with him for PJ Washington? Meh. The Mavs don’t need more scoring, so adding Washington basically gives the Mavs a better scoring version of Grant and another DJJ.

Nico Harrison at the minimum earns his spot on the payroll, he has had very little to work with since he took the job. Gafford at the least is young, 25, and 6'10", which the Mavs desperately needed. Same with P.J. Washington (25). These guys at the least should bring some size and the energy of youth. As far as PJ and the defensive issue, I think the Mavs really wanted to get Doe-Doe back from the Nets but they wanted too much.

Agreed. Top option was Kuzma but they couldn’t get it done also. I just think it wasn’t smart giving up what they did for PJ. I’ve followed him this season (because he’s on my fantasy team) and he’s been a borderline starter being relegated back and forth from starter to bench player all season. Worse defensively than Williams but better offensively somewhat (very inconsistent). Hopefully playing with Luka gives him a boost, otherwise it’s a vanilla trade that doesn’t improve the team.

Gafford was the key pickup.

I actually like Midwiddie, on any given night he's capable of giving you 30. He's not top of the food chain but he is more than capable.
He’s a great fit as he’s shown. He succeeded because he was a great ball handler that ran well with the second unit. This Mavs team now have only two ball handlers, Luka and Kyrie. They lack this when it comes to the 2nd unit and they always need Luka or Kyrie running the 2nd unit. Dinwiddie could fill that void once again and allow Luka/Kyrie to be less worn down when it gets to the 4th quarter.

He was also clutch as hell with Brunson during the good playoff run.

Apparently the Mavs are already talking to him.
