BTW, I think basketball is now in a spot where NFL football is, where good offense has an advantage over good defense by game design. Big Honey was right on the money when he said offense has an advantage because defense has to react to offense, and well oiled and executed offense, especially with the level of shooting talent out there - buttressed by greater global talent (see above, the top 5 MVP candidates are ALL foreign players, something that would have been unheard of not long ago), inherently gives offense the advantage.

In NFL, I've felt for a while that basically rank your QBs and that's who'll go to the end. The odds of winning with a Trent Dilfer level quarterback are so slim these days, I'd say it's next to none.

The leagues protect their assets (star players health) more these days which adds to the advantage for offense. The NFL has no desire having backups play because starting QBs getting slammed and maimed by defensive linemen. Likewise, the NBA has no desire to see the players who sell tickets get injured by the Dillon Brooks of the league. So personally, I think it's a mix of the two factors seemingly debated here; how much each contributes is in the eye of the beholder.

Brunson certainly deserves to be in there over Sabonis. His impact and value to his team is much more important than Sabonis’. Sabonis has always been a great stat guy but not a number one you can rely on to lead a team.

There’s a reason everyone made a huge deal about Brunson being snubbed as an all star starter and we haven’t heard one peep about Sabonis.

I don't really have an opinion to be honest. I'm just amused by how strong other people's opinions are. Sure, the numbers are numbers are there are other things to consider such as above, but when opinion's diverge so much from numbers, it gets interesting to see how rational arguments get versus blatant fanboyism. I mean, is there an element of nobody watching Sabonis, or nobody caring about his team, or his style? He seems to be pretty effective.... And just in general, someone earlier in the season from ESPN was suggesting Tatum or Durant should be MVP .... seems like odd picks when the history of MVP awards imply either ought to be huge underdogs....

Numbers are only one factor. Brunson also has good numbers and turned his entire team around and made them a contender. Sabonis isn’t even the number one on his own team. If it were all about numbers, Luka automatically wins MVP, unfortunately it isn’t.

The BR model actually includes teams wins/losses, games played etc as numbers in their model. So when I say numbers in this context, that is included. But I agree that Sabonis in no way should be considered league MVP lol. But pundits will pump the tires for some guys that in no way deserve to be MVP as well.

I'm not sure Luka automatically wins MVP looking at numbers to be honest. Well, i guess depending on which numbers. WS/48 is usually the most telling for who will win MVP. Followed by PER. I imagine you are looking at it from the points/boards/assists metrics perspective?

They gotta cling to their past because they don't have a future. That's all I can think of. It's honestly kinda weird being that obsessive over it. Like, I think Fedor is the GOAT in human cock fighting. I don't feel the need to tell everyone lol.
Ironic you shit on mechanics when Fedor fought a literal mechanic

Having said that Fedor is hw goat

Jones is probably the real goat

Gsp is goat if you don't count getting busted for peds

Mainly that yes. The advanced metrics are good too but not as important. You have guys like Jarrett Allen top 5 in WS/48 lmao. At least he was a couple weeks ago. It’s a mix of everything.

Advanced stats I think are very important, probably more important but less understandable to the average fan so consequently less publicized. It's surely true someone can cherry pick any individual advanced metric and find examples of obvious outliers. But looking at the overall body of advanced stats and seeing the players that consistently rank at the top is very telling IMO.

Basketball is a bit different than other sports in that players can eat other players' lunch when it comes to outright statistics. Much more so than other sports where it is less apparent. Perhaps, something like a great player who bats behind a big home run or strike out hitter is likely to have his RBI numbers suppressed because he more often bats with empty bases. Elite basketball isn't just about scoring or passing, but when to do which at the highest probability of success which advanced stats generally, but definitely not perfectly, do indicate. Something like WS/48 IIRC when I looked deep into it, basically coincides with the MVP winner more often than not, like the MVP winner is top 2 in WS/48 like 90% plus of the time.

I agree. I see it as mixing everything you said with the circumstances and impact of a particular player to their team with the eye test (I’m a junkie that buys NBA league pass every season). So Yes advanced metrics are a good reference but don’t tell the entire story. I still value what I see over that most times.

Now they're unsure of whether to like every post because they'll get made fun of. Lol. They're basically 12 year old girls talking about sports they don't understand on a karate forum.
they really don’t know shit about sports and act like they’re hardcore sports fanatics. Try hard frauds calling us boomers lmao.

Great teammate. Take all the praise when things are going well and blame everyone else when you're losing. Lmao.

It's understandable that Curry has no interest in playing with this can.

Fedro getting ktfo by shittrione automatically disqualified him from being the goat.
love Fedro, but his invincibility went away not after werdum because i chalked that up to werdum trolling/fluking out the win, then Bigfoot was enormous and juiced to the gills, but hendo (even though he has a rocket of a punch) is one guy that fedor can't say was bigger than him

Says the clown that only posts in here about Lebron or Laker fans. lmao
