Wide Receiver
Tier 1
Chris Olave (Ohio State)-Probably the best route runner in this class. Was great at getting open all over the Field.Had sure Hands.Reminds me of a smaller version of Justin Jefferson in that sense.Average in Size.Quick as Hell.Lacks physicality.Didn’t show much YAC abilities.
Garrett Wilson (Ohio State)-slightly undersized outside WR.Has really good Speed and acceleration and regularly got open.Could deal with more physical outside CBs.Showed incredible Balance on some Highlight reel catches. Was an absolute YAC threat with the Ball in his Hands.Could use improvement on his technique as a route runner.
Tier 2
Jameson Williams (Alabama/Ohio State)-Lanky and fast Outside WR.Has a quick release and ridiculous Long Speed with his long strides.Showed good Hands and was a YAC Threat. Was often used and effective on plays behind the LOS.Did well in contested situations despite being well under 200lbs. Could be more nuanced as a route runner, rarely used Head fakes and his cuts could be quicker.Didn’t face a lot of Press coverage as CBs were worried about his Speed.
John Metchie (Alabama)-slightly undersized WR with outside & slot capabilities.Doesn’t have game-breaking Speed but can absolutely burn Defenders.Has a quick release and can cut quickly.Did a lot of Blocking work and did pretty well there.Needs to improve and learn to beat good, physical DBs.
Tier 3
Christian Watson (North Dakota State)-Lanky and athletic WR.Has a rare athletic and agility Profile for his size.Mostly aligned outside with his fair share of slot and even backfield alignments. Was a really good Blocker, which he had to do a lot of in college.Has the Speed to burn CBs deep.Tracks the Ball well.Has a quick release.Did really well on screens and jet sweeps and showed impressive agility there.Showed inconsistent Hands and had his fair share of Drops.Rarely faced Press coverage in the FCS.
Skyy Moore (Western Michigan)-WR with thick build but less than ideal length.Lines up in the slot and outside.Has an Elite first step and was great at quick weight shifts leaving defenders in the dust. One of the cleanest Ball catchers in this class and one of the most agile WRs.Fearless catcher over the Middle. One of the best route runners in this class. His length might limit him to a slot role for NFL Teams. Was not a very passionate Blocker.
David Bell (Purdue)-Mid-sized WR.Played Outside and in the slot. Can adjust his Routes really well to make DBs look foolish.Has a Knack for exploiting Zone Coverage.Tracked the Ball really well and was really good at the catchpoint with sure Hands.Always looks to get YAC and was a Threat there.Lacks Top End Athleticism and had a slow release.
Kyle Philips (UCLA)-Compact Slot WR.One of the most agile WRs in this class.Probably the best route runner in the slot with some of the best Hands and a quick release.Very good at manipulating Defenders.Very reminiscent of players like Julian Edelman or Hunter Renfrow. Was a committed Blocker.Doesn’t have Top End Speed.
Reggie Roberson (SMU)-Was an Elite Deep Threat in College.Has great Long Speed and showed good Hands, even in traffic. The few routes he ran he was really good at.His route tree was limited by SMUs scheme. His change-of-direction skills aren’t up to par.Had 2 seasons shortened by Injuries (Hamstring (2019),ACL (2020))
WanDale Robinson (Kentucky/Nebraska)-Undersized WR who played mostly in the slot and used on plays behind the LOS.Equipped with Good (though far from game-breaking) Speed and pretty elite change-of-direction ability.Has a quick release.Very effective at short and intermediate routes with the ability to turn upfield.Wasn’t much of a Blocker, where his Size also hurt him.
Tier 4
Calvin Austin (Memphis)-Undersized,twitched-up WR who played mostly in the slot.Is probably the fastest WR in this class with blazing straight line speed.Has a quick release and lightning quick agility.Isn’t the crispest route runner yet.His size will probably limit him to a slot/Returner role.Wasn’t much of a Tackle breaker.
Romeo Doubs (Nevada)-Outside WR with good size.Has a quick release and can pick up Speed quickly and burst by Defensive Backs.Ran a very limited Route Tree, which took advantage of his long speed.Needs to get better vs. Press Coverage. For me he’s a less fluid and slightly less speedy version of Jameson Williams.
George Pickens (Georgia)-Lanky outside WR with decent Size. Was a good Blocker.Showed great Ball tracking.Had some Highlight catches with hiswide catch radius. Was successful when playing over the Middle.Rarely managed to get off press coverage.Lacks Top End Speed.Tore his ACL in 2021 and barely played in his last year in College.Showed less than ideal work as a Ball catcher.
Khalil Shakir (Boise State)-Played outside and in the slot, though he’ll probably work 99% in the slot in the NFL.Is Quite electric with the Ball in his Hands, which is why he was used as a Returner and out of the Backfield.Tracks the Ball well and showed good Hands. Is an upper Level Route Runner.Rarely faced Press coverage.Doesn’t have Top End Speed.
Drake London (USC)-Tall WR who played exclusively in the slot, then moved outside in 2021.Due to his Height/Wingspan he can pluck the Ball out of the Air.Showed some good Blocking. Was a YAC machine and hard to bring down, especially impressive for his slim Body type..Often exploited open Zones on the Defense.Due to his long LImbs his routes don’t look particularly clean and he looks fairly slow when making cuts. His overall Speed is lacking too. Will have to succeed as a "contested catch" in the NFL.
Alec Pierce (Cincinnati)-Lanky WR who aligned outside and in the slot.Has some impressive and intriguing Athleticism for his Body type.Has a quick release and some impressive lateral movement skills.Has fast Long Speed and is a Deep Threat Option. He’s an advanced route runner too, even against press coverage outside. His Ball tracking isn’t all there as there were some plays where he looked over his wrong shoulder. His Blocking looked half-hearted and was disappointing with his Size.He had too many Drops for my taste. He wasn’t effective in contested or goalline Situations despite his Length.
Justyn Ross (Clemson)-Long WR,played mostly outside with some slot work.Showed outstanding Ball tracking skills as well as Balance and his ability to pluck catches.Has some explosive vertical skills. Was a willing Blocker. Was easy to figure out as a route runner and never adjusted when his opponents figured him out.Has middling Speed.Had spinal surgery in 2020.
Treylon Burks (Arkansas)-Massive WR with good long Speed and huge Hands.Worked almost exclusively in the Slot. Was a mean Blocker. An absolute YAC Threat as he was hard to bring down. Was often schemed open to get him the Ball. His release is on the slow side.Elusiveness at his size is obviously not there. There is 0 evidence that he can win consistently when lined up outside. Was used a lot as a Gadget player behind the LOS.I got serious Cordarelle Patterson/Laviska Shenault vibes with him.
Danny Gray (SMU)-Mid-sized Outside WR who’ll probably move to the slot in the NFL.Is a pretty good athlete.Showed good abilities to track and catch the Ball. Was effective getting YAC.His Routes need work especially when it comes to stacking DBs.His skillset translates better to the slot.
Jerreth Sterns (Western Kentucky/Houston Baptist)-Stocky, undersized WR.Lined up mostly in the slot with a couple outside reps.Is very agile due to his low center of gravity and a Top Tier route runner.Displayed good Hands.Showed great awareness and timing on routes.Lacks in athleticism, especially speed. Was a committed Blocker but not very effective. Is definitely a Slot WR only at the next Level.
Deven Thompkins (Utah State)-Small WR.Mostly played in the Slot.Is incredibly quick and agile and gave most slot CBs fits.Cuts incredibly quick and turn burst downfield. Was a pretty good Blocker at his size.Reminds me of Isaiah McKenzie. His size limits him to a slot & Returner role but he has the ability to beat defenders deep. Not quite as explosive as ome other smaller WRs in this class.
Tier 5
Jahan Dotson (Penn State)-played most snaps on the outside but projects more as a slot WR in the NFL (played more in the slot in 2021)..Did pretty well on in-breaking routes. Was Elite at tracking & catching the Ball.Had a very limited route tree.Had a slow release.Struggled to win outside against physical CBs.was too reliant on winning contested catches.Never tried to adjust when CBs had figured his routes out.Surprisingly lacks agility at his small size.
Tyquan Thornton (Baylor)-Long and thin WR.Has blazing straight line speed. Can get past secondary defenders for long gains. Was a surprisingly committed and effective Blocker, considering his Frame.Has inconsistent Hands.Lacks agility which was visible on curl and comeback routes.Had difficulties shedding physical CBs in press coverage. His release is a bit slow.
Bo Melton (Rutgers)-Undersized WR with really good athleticism.Played outside and in the slot. Was very effective across the Middle and as a gadget WR around the LOS with jets sweeps etc.Showed secure Hands and is a solid route runner, though his route tree was limited. He’s also a competitive Blocker. He struggled to create much in terms of YAC.Despite his Athleticism he doesn’t have sudden explosiveness on tape.
Velus Jones (Tennessee)-WR with a RB Build. Was mostly used in the slot. Was mostly targeted on screen plays and behind the LOS and worked heavily in traffic in a Deebo Samuel-esque role.Showed good Hands and Ball security in traffic. Is a threat in Space.Ran an extremely limited route tree in college but that might be scheme-related usage as he showed a more expanded route tree at the senior Bowl, though he still has to improve a lot there.
Jalen Tolbert (South Alabama)-Outside WR with good Size.Has a good release and turned quick on comeback/curl routes.Catches too many Balls with his Body and had some really worrying Drops.Has less than ideal Athleticism.Didn’t face much press coverage. Not much of a Blocker.
Ty Fryfogle (Indiana)-Outside WR with good size.Showed really good abilities to track the Ball and time his catch.Plays physical and Blocks well. Was a YAC Threat with the Ball in his Hands. Was too reliant on winning contested catches in college.Has pretty average Speed.Isn’t a particularly good Route Runner.
Tier 6
Dontario Drummond (Ole Miss)-WR with a stout build.Aligned mostly in the slot but also outside. Was a good YAC Threat and Returner.Showed a good Double move as a route runner.Has good Speed but doesn’t really stand out in the Department.A lot of his Production was schemed up in Ole Miss’ System.Has a slow release.Isn’t really exceptional in any Area.Seemed worried to get hit when he had to catch a Ball in traffic.
Jaquarii Roberson (Wake Forest)-played in a pretty gimmick-y Delayed RPO Mesh Offense, usually in the slot.Has decent Length but is slender. Was surprisingly effective in contested and jump Ball Situations.Did well at exploiting soft spots in Zone Defense.Has a mediocre athletic profile for a guy his size.Played in an offensive scheme that gave him more time to separate.Has a slow release and struggled in Man coverage.
Kevin Austin jr (Notre Dame)-WR who played mostly outside with some snaps in the slot.Tested as a Top Tier Athlete with Elite Long Speed. Is one of the best Blockers in this class.Needs space to shine and was more effective in the slot.Had huge trouble getting off press coverage where CBs could easily take him out with a jam and lead him to the sideline.Has concerning technique as a pass catcher where he had a lot of drops. Was not effective in contested catch situations.
