2022 NFL Draft Discussion

Linebacker

Tier 1

Nakobe Dean (Georgia)-Stout LB with below average length. Was explosive off the snap. Was an excellent Blitzer with delayed and creative A gap rushes. Was a really good Run defender who could hit gaps and shed Blocks. Was quick to react and close on the Ball carrier, leading to negative plays.Generally did well in pass coverage when the game is in front of him.His Arms seem to be on the shorter side as he had some missed arm tackles. Is pretty untested in Man coverage and will have to have to learn in the NFL.

Devin Lloyd (Utah)-Lanky MLB (can play OLB) with good size and long Arms.Dropped deeper in Coverage than most College LBs and showed really good work in coverage. Is a quick thinker and detected and snuffed out plays behind the LOS.Needs to get more physical as a Tackler and when shedding Blocks. Also played snaps at Edge but wasn’t particularly effective or natural there.Doesn’t have Top Level Athleticism.

Tier 2

Josh Ross (Michigan)-Slightly undersized LB.Looked really good in Zone Coverage, which he had to play a lot at Michigan. The 2nd most impressive Blitzer in this class behind Nakobe Dead.Had a knack for slipping through Gaps and pressure the QB.Always seemed to be in Position to make a Tackle.Showed good sideline-to-sideline work.Needs to get better at shedding Blocks and be a more physical Tackler.

Channing Tindall (Georgia)-Slightly undersized LB.The fastest LB in this class and probably one of the best overall Athletes this year.Has ridiculous Downhill speed and stopped plenty of run plays by exploding downhill and tackling the RB in no time.He constantly showed great sideline-to-sideline work as a Tackler and in coverage. His Arms seem to be on the shorter side and he was a less effective Tackler when it got physical in close quarters.Did get fooled at times by play fakes.Wasn’t a starter in Georgia’s Defense.

Chad Muma (Wyoming)-Lined up at Inside and mostly outside LB.Has good size.Showed really good sideline-to-sideline instincts. Was a really good Tackler. Was the MIKE on his Teamand showed good coverage instincts. Is not a particularly impressive Athlete.Needs to get better at shedding Blocks and playing the run in general.

Mike Rose (Iowa State)-Inside LB with prototypical Size.Had to play a lot of Man coverage and looked smooth and fluid there with natural instincts..Sniffed out screens early and attacked the gap to bring down RBs behind the LOS.An average-at-best Athlete at LB.Let players slip out of his Tackles too much.

Leo Chenal (Wisconsin)-Prototypical-size Inside LB.Plays with plenty of power. Was a sure Tackler. Was an asset in run Defense and as a Blitzer.Like many other LBs he was much more effective when the game is in Front of him.Wasn’t asked to do a lot of work in coverage other than dropping into a short zone though i doubt he’d make a great pass coverage LB at his size.

Tier 3

Quay Walker (Georgia)-Lanky LB with high level athleticism.Mostly aligned at SAM.Was used a lot as a Blitzer and a run Defender.Has a strong power Base and was a pretty violent Tackler.Could penetrate gapes and stop runs behind the LOS as well as shed Blockers. In pass coverage he mostly just dropped into Zone but he had some impressive Man coverage plays to snuff out some screens or short routes over the middle. Is a bit stiff and missed open field tackles against very agile WRs.Didn’t show near the level of vision and anticipation skills as his Teammate Nakobe Dean.

Damone Clark (LSU)-Long LB with good size.Athletic and explosive.Played MLB but projects better to WILL in the NFL.Showed very intriguing Zone Coverage skills.Moves quick and smooth in coverage.Has quick read & react skills.Struggled as a run defender in the middle, which will probably keep him from playing MLB at the next level.Needs to be more physical as a Tackler.Had spinal fusion surgery and will miss the entire 2022 NFL season.

Christian Harris (Alabama)-Mostly played SAM LB.Did really well as a Blitzer where he showed explosiveness. In Coverage he was good as long as the game was in Front of him.Was very physical and good at shedding Blocks but he often attacked the wrong gap in Run Defense.Dropping deeper in coverage he was very rudimentary and didn’t show good instincts.

Malcolm Rodriguez (Oklahoma State)-Undersized,stocky, athletic WILL LB.Displayed very good speed and agility downhill. Was one of the better Blitzers in this class.Has big sideline-to-sideline range. Was a good TacklerDid a good job when in man coverage on short and intermediate routes. Was successful shooting gaps for TFLs.Was a great Special Teams player.Has short arms.Bit on play action too much.struggled to shed Blocks and will get overpowered by Offensive Linemen when playing MLB.

Jack Sanborn (Wisconsin)-Slightly undersized MLB with a decent athletic Profile.Played an old school MLB role. Was an instinctive run defender. Was fairly effective as a Blitzer. and a sure Tackler around the LOS.Had a couple of misses on open field tackles. Is untested in Man coverage due to Wisconsin almost exclusively letting him do simple Drops into Zone coverage.

Tier 4

Jojo Domann (Nebraska)-Undersized LB who mostly worked in coverage in the slot (short-mid Area).Showed good coverage instincts and looked fluid in coverage.Could carry Slot Receivers,RBs & TEs in coverage.Had some work on Blitzes but wasn’t particularly good there.Despite his fluid movements he didn’t show any explosiveness. The Physicality as a LB lacked, he had trouble shedding Blocks, even from WRs and wasn’t a very physical Tackler. Most NFL Teams will probably view him as a Strong Safety.

Micah McFadden (Indiana)-Compact MLB with upper level athleticism and agility.Instinctive downhill LB.Was a sure tackler and an asset as a Blitzer.Untested in Man coverage as he mainly just dropped into Zone or covered the Flat.Needs to get better at shedding Blockers.Lacks Length

Brian Asamoah (Oklahoma)-Slightly undersized but athletic LB.Mostly played MLB.Was at his best when the action is in Front of him and he could shoot gaps and pursue to tackle quickly. He has really good sideline-to-sideline speed.Did struggle in pass coverage, which he wasn’t asked to do much.He also needs to get better at shedding Blocks.

Terrel Bernard (Baylor)-Undersized LB with very good athleticism.Played in a WILL LB role.Quickly shoots out the gates and covers a lot of ground fast. Was a very effective Blitzer when he can crash into gaps or Blitz as a Nickel.Did struggle as a run defender as he couldn’t shed blocks.NFL Teams will probably see him as a Nickel LB or convert him to SS.

Tier 5

Brandon Smith (Penn State)-Long and athletic LB.Mostly played WILL but had his fair share of snaps at MIKE and SAM.Athleticism is his big asset. He can close on the Ball carrier fast.He did well as a Blitzer and outright pass rusher.Has the movement to be good in coverage but his work in coverage was very hit-or-miss.He had a concerning number of missed Tackles. He really struggled to shed Blockers vs. the run and was getting kinda wrecked there.

Tier 6

Ellis Brooks (Penn State)-Undersized MLB.Was a sure tackler and a decent downhill defender..Was not instinctive in pass coverage. Was a poor run defender.A very average athlete who looks stiff in space. Wll definitely not play MLB in the NFL due to his size.At best he can be a Nickel Defender but even there his upside isn’t all that high

Nephi Sewell (Utah)-Undersized WILL LB.Was a good pursuit LB and open field tackler.Showed decent Man & Zone coverage instincts in the short and intermediate Area. Was ineffective as a Blitzer.Didn’t really hold up as a Run Defender.Probably needs to move to Strong Safety in the NFL.

Cornerbacks

Tier 1

Derek Stingley (LSU)
-Elite outside Cover CB from his Freshman year on.Has elite athleticism.one of the few CBs who can athletically match Top WRs.Can play in Man and Zone coverage schemes.Tended to be overaggressive at points.Dealt with nagging Injuries in his last 2 years.

Ahmad Gardner (Cincinnati)-ideal size if he adds 5lbs.Had a ton of snaps in college.really talented Press Man outside CB though he’ll have to use more actual Press technique at the next level..Elite at reading and reacting to Offenses at College.Has good straight line speed but lacks in agility and short area quickness.Did have issues as a Tackler

Tier 2

Trent McDuffie (Washington)-Slightly undersized and stocky outside CB.Would be ideal in a Zone heavy scheme. Was great at reading and reacting to offenses. Is sticky in coverage and rarely showed his lack of size on the outside.Maybe the best Tackler in this class.Doesn’t have ideal length for an outside CB and NFL Teams will likely see him as a pure Slot CB.

Kaiir Elam (Florida)-Ideal Size for an outside CB.Has elite athleticism. Can work in Man and Zone coverage.Quick reaction skills.Played in a terrible College scheme that had the CBs constantly play soft off coverage.Wasn’t a terribly great Tackler.

Damarri Mathis (Pittsburgh)-Well-built Press-Man CB with very good athleticism.Played in a Man coverage-heavy role.Used his Jam technique very effectively in press coverage.Has fluid Hips and Top Long speed. Is comfortable turning his head towards the Ball when his back is turned in coverage.Doesn’t have ideal Length as an outside CB.

Tier 3

Roger McCreary (Auburn)-slightly undersized but stout outside CB.Showed really quick read & reaction skills.Showed really good agility when having to cut for an in-breaking WR.Showed that he can stay with WRs on the sideline and make plays on the Ball.He does lack Top End Speed.Needs to get more physical as he allowed too many free releases when lined up outside.

Kyler Gordon (Washington)-Has good Size. One of the best Athletes in this DB class.Mostly played in Off Man Coverage as his speed would allow him to close on Targets quickly.Looked fluid and rarely challenged in coverage. As a Tackler he could be overaggressive and miss.

Andrew Booth (Clemson)-Really athletic Outside CB.Played mostly in Off Man Coverage using his closing Speed to go for pass breakups or jump routes.Has great closing Speed and very fluid Hips.Looked comfortable playing Press coverage when he did.Did sometimes mistime his Tackles and missed them.

Tier 4

Zyon McCollum (Sam Houston State)-Most athletic player in this class.Played Zone and Man coverage.Had zero problems in coverage as he could effortlessly cover any WR.Has quick Feet, fluid Hips, can make quick cuts. Was not a willing Tackler, especially in run defense. The level of competition in the FCS was obviously not high.

Marcus Jones (Houston)-Undersized CB.Played every CB position in college, every side and the slot.A lot of Experience in Man and Zone Coverage.Has upper Echelon Athleticism and Agility in this class. Can flip his Hips lightning quick.Had no Problem mirroring guys.Closes on the Ball quick. One of the few CBs who isn’t scared to turn his Head towards the Ball in fear of losing his Receiver. Was a real Threat as a Kick Returner..Plays very physical for his size, which sometimes leads him to be too grabby. His size could limit him to a Slot CB role in the NFL.Tended to be overaggressive going for the Ball, which lead to some Big plays against him.

Tariq Woolen (UTSA)-Lanky CB with elite Speed and explosiveness.Mostly played in Zone and Off Man coverage.Could easily mirror WRs on the outside. Can flis his Hips quick.Has incredible closing speed.Could lead WRs to the sideline and close off space.Due to his length he lacks in agility, which made him vulnerable to WRs who can make hard cuts on routes.Never looked at the ball when he had his back turned while in coverage, which opens him up to DPI penalties in the NFL.

Jalyn Armour-Davis (Alabama)-Outside CB with prototypical size.Mostly played in Press and off-man coverage.Has good straight line speed.Comfortable in Man coverage on the outside..Is very physical.Could get grabby at times.Lacks in agility and explosiveness.

Derion Kendrick (Georgia/Clemson)-Converted QB/WR.Has all the athletic Tools.Mostly played in Off Man and Zone coverage with some work in the slot.Showed fluid Hips and good Speed, which allowed him to give WRs a free Release.Manipulates WR routes to give him beneficial positioning.
He’s also versatile as he’s showed very good traits in the slot, which gives him outside and inside capabilities.Simply refused to turn and look to the Ball when he has his back turned which lead to panic grabs and DPI.Bigger WR could also easily handle him with Blocks.Got into some trouble with the police and had to leave Clemson.

Tier 5

Martin Emerson (Mississippi State)-Long CB with good size.Experienced in Press & Off Man and Zone Coverage, though Press Man coverage fits his skills best.Played with good understanding of coverage.Takes good angles when tackling.Needs to play more physical when tackling and taking on Blocks.Isn’t particularly quick when changing directions and has limited Top Speed.

Josh Jobe (Alabama)-Has 3 years of good play as a Press Man outside CB.Constantly jams and challenges WRs on routes.Has good athleticism but lacks Top End Speed.Took some lumps against quicker WRs.Way too Hands-y for the NFL.

Coby Bryant (Cincinnati)-Stocky Outside CB.Experienced in a Man Coverage scheme.Has a lot of Snaps under his Belt and showed consistently good coverage work. Was a physical Tackler. Was always looking for the Ball.Does lack agility and Top End Speed.Could be grabby at times. His Arms are on the shorter side.

Cam Taylor-Britt (Nebraska)-Compact outside CB.Mostly played Off-Man coverage but projects best to a Press Man CB.Has Top straight line speed, which helped him keep up with WRs.Has a good power Base.Likes to break on the Ball and go for the INT.Has deficiencies when it comes to agility.Needs to become a much more press-heavy CB in the NFL as he can’t afford giving WRs a free release.Likes his shoulder tackles a bit too much.

Mario Goodrich (Clemson)-Slim CB.Played outside CB but will likely move to the slot in the NFL.Mostly played in Zone coverage. Was a surprisingly solid Tackler and general run defender considering his weight.Showed good read & react skills. Was a good Tackler in space. Is a very average Athlete. Is unproven in Man coverage. His skilset translates better to the slot.

Tariq Castro-Fields (Penn State)-Outside CB with good size and Top level Athleticism.Played mostly in off-man and Zone coverage.Moves very well and can afford to use Bail technique in coverage as he does have the speed to close quick. Can click and close fast in Zone coverage.Severely lacks in physical play.Had some bad losses when trying to use Press technique. Was disappointing as a Tackler and in run support.

Alontae Taylor (Tennessee)-Outside CB with good size.Played mostly off-man and zone coverage.Has good straight line speed and explosiveness.Has good read & react skills in coverage. He has underwhelming agility, which was mostly the case when WRs got open against him.Was a disappointing Tackler for his size. His skillset projects much more to a Press Man CB in the NFL.

Kalon Barnes (Baylor)-Slightly undersized Outside CB.Played in Off Man and Zone coverage.Has ridiculous straight line speed and can easily keep up with any WR along the sideline.Always looks to jump routes.Has relatively few starting snaps under his Belt.Is not a good Tackler. Will probably need development in the nFL.

Tier 6

Mykael Wright (Oregon)-Small CB.Played in Zone and Man coverage.Has good feet and is quick with his backpedal.Has good read & react skills, especially in Zone coverage.Mostly played outside but his skill set translates better to the slot.Lacks explosiveness.Has disappointing Speed for his size.Lacks as a Tackler and wants nothing to do with Run Defense.

Always a good thread with your write ups @KOQ24 . I haven't watched anything yet this year (niners actually won games + we don't have a first). Hoping Jimmy nets us a early day two pick so I'm more interested in watching possible picks.

I'm def excited for the draft the lead up is always the best time of year for football fans after the SB.

I like the effort you put in

Safeties

Tier 1

Kyle Hamilton (Notre Dame)-Big and athletic Safety who could also go into a Hybrid LB role.Has the athleticism to play Deep but would be better served in a Jamal Adams/Derwin James role.Has a lot of versatility in coverage.Has great instincts and good anticipatory skills.Often makes the right read but missed a lot of Tackles in college and has a weird tackling technique.

Daxton Hill (Michigan)-Slightly undersized.Played in the Slot & at FS.One of the best Athletes in this class.Showed really good read & react abilities pre-snap.In coverage he can easily flip his Hips and showed great Footwork. His Speed also really helped him on Blitzes.Despite his lack of size he was a committed Tackler and used Press Man Technique in the slot.

Nick Cross (Maryland)-Safety with good size and Top athleticism.Played FS and in the slot.Has quick read & react skills.Showed great click-and-close skills.Comes downhill fast and loves hits.Has positional variety as he can patrol deep, in the Box or in the slot.Showed good Ball skills.Could be overaggressive, take weird angles and miss tackles.Projects to play a lot as a Deep FS and in the slot.

Lewis Cine (Georgia)-Safety who often worked in the slot. Was great at sniffing out plays early. Was a really good Tackler at his size, even against bigger players.Really improved in Coverage in the slot and he could stick to WRs consistently..Was also impressive against the run where he shot gaps quickly.I think he has the Range to play Deep as well as go into the slot.

Jalen Pitre (Baylor)-Good-sized Safety who mostly played in the Slot, mostly in Zone Coverage. Can close on the Ball extremely quick.Showed impressive work as a Blitzer.Has really nice read & react skills.Surprisingly agile for his Size, which makes him a real challenge in the slot. Not overly physical and shouldn’t have to be too involved as a Run Defender.

Jaquan Brisker (Penn State)-SS with Top Level Athleticism.Mostly played SS with Duties in the slot.Showed great Coverage Instincts.Had No Problems sticking with most WRs and TEs in Pass coverage. Can close distance really fast and didn’t panic when the Ball is thrown his way.Was excellent as a run Defender and as a Tackler.I’m not sure he’s the rangiest Safety, so playing Deep FS is probably not his thing.

Tier 3

JT Woods (Baylor)-Lanky Safety in a Zone-heavy system. Is a really good Athlete.Mostly played SS but had his fair share of snaps at FS and in the slot.Showed very good movement skills and range in coverage.Loved to come downhill and engage in contact but he was overaggressive and often missed tackles, also ended up biting on play-action a bit too much..Was too much of a shoulder tackler.Lacks the play strength to be a SS in the NFL, a full time move to FS is more likely.

Tier 4

Bryan Cook (Cincinnati)-SS with decent size.Played deep, in the slot but mostly in the Box in Man and Zone coverage..Comes downhill and is a sure tackler as a Run defender. Can take on coverage roles against TEs or bigger WRs.A decent-but-not-great Athlete. Will probably be relegated to a Box, part time Slot role as he has limited Range.

Yusuf Corker (Kentucky)-Safety with good size.Played mostly in the slot and the Box in heavy Man coverage.Did his best work as a Run Defender in the Box.Has a good power base,Comes downhill quick, can shed Blocks and is a sure tackler.Did some decent work in Pass coverage when covering the slot.Just an o.k. Athlete.Has limited Range or agility. Will probably be a Box Safety only in the NFL.

Jairon McVae (Baylor)-undersized Safety.Played various DB positions in a Zone-heavy scheme.Has great straight-line speed and one of the quicker reaction times on tape.Sees a pass target early, closes quickly and makes secure tackles.Generally makes a lot of smart decisions in zone defense.Would be best used in a Defensive scheme that uses a lot of Cover 2 concepts. If he is forced into a slot role because of his size he could struggle due to his agility being sub-optimal.

Quentin Lake (UCLA)-Safety with decent Size-Lined up at FS and in the Slot in a Zone-heavy system.Showed great coverage instincts and ability to read plays in Zone coverage.Lacks a power Element, which showed up in his run defense. Is a pretty average athlete.Lacks explosiveness. Was much less effective in Man coverage.

Tier 5

Kerby Joseph (Illinois)-Good-sized Safety.Aligned at traditional Single High Safety.Showed really good Run Defense and was an upper level Tackler.Showed good coverage instincts in short and medium range but lacks Top Level Speed. Will probably be a Strong Safety at the next Level.

Smoke Monday (Auburn)-Lanky Strong Safety.Played mostly around the Box and in the slot.Showed some good work as a Blitzer and stopping runs coming off the Edge.Has decent coverage skills against TEs, bigger RBs and bigger slot WRs.Was not a particularly strong Tackler for a Box Safety.Just an o.k. Athlete.Tackles very high.

Leon O’Neal jr (Texas A&M)-Decent SS prospect. Was a really good Run Defender.Loved coming downhill to thump people.Makes plays around the LOS.Has mediocre coverage skills. Not hugely versatile either. Will be a pure Box Safety in the NFL.

Brad Hawkins (Michigan)-Safety with good size and decent athleticism.Lined up at FS,SS with a few snaps in the slot.Has a good power base.Showed decent coverage skills in short and intermediate Areas.Had some good stops behind the LOS with good anticipatory plays.Does not have the Range or agility so survive at FS with a lot of Single High work.Did have the tendency to take bad Angles and miss Tackles.Projects to SS in the NFL but will have to improve his Tackling.

Tier 6

Bubba Bolden (Miami/USC)-Has great size and good Speed.Largely living off his 4-Star Pedigree.Has pretty good speed but is far from Explosive.Played in the Box, in the slot and a bit Deep.Didn’t show much in terms of instincts and anticipatory skills, usually just reacted to plays. He’s a bit of a shoulder tackler.Got kicked out of USC.

Edge Defenders

Tier 1

Kayvon Thibodeaux (Oregon)-Long DE with incredible Athleticism. Is ridiculously quick off the snap and beats OTs with his Speed.Showed that he can convert speed-to-power really well.Uses his long Arms really well to get OTs early.Did play a good bit off the Ball and can make plays in the open Field with his Athleticism.Needs to get better at setting the Edge vs. the run.Didn’t show a big Arsenal of pass rush moves.Doesn’t have much Bend to him.

DeMarvin Leal (Texas A&M)-Played DE & 3-Tech.Incredibly explosive get-off.O Linemen often weren’t quick enough to get Blocks on him.Has an Arsenal of club, rip moves. Was constantly able to get into the Backfield and harass QBs.Always kept his eyes on the Ball and was impervious to misdirection plays. Was a really good inside run defender despite being a tad undersized for a DT but needs to improve further in that Area when playing inside.

Tier 2

Aidan Hutchinson (Michigan)-Big DE.Can move inside and play 3-Tech on passing downs.Has an incredibly strong Base.Wins with Power but also has a nice Arsenal of pass rush moves incl. a strong first punch. His long Arms also help him with that.Set the Edge and defended the run with 0 Problems. Is a really good but not a Top Tier Athlete.

Arnold Ebiketie (Penn State)-Edge with good size.Explodes off the snap.Attacks with power and impressive Bend. Was successful working outside and on the Tackles inside shoulder with rip moves and underhooks and straight speed rushes.Looked more natural rushing from the Left Tackle side than the right.Needs to improve his Run Defense where he could get moved off gaps and get stuck on Blocks.

Jermaine Johnson (Florida State/Georgia)-DE with really good Size.Has a quick get-off.Has really good core strength coupled with a good wing span for the position.Has a violent first punch, which gave pass blockers Problems.Set the Edge well defending the Run.Was a good Tackler in Open space.Likes to crash inside, especially attack the B Gap.Doesn’t have much Bend to him.Rarely showed counter moves when he got bottled up by a Tackle.Wasn’t particularly versatile with his pass rush technique.

Cameron Thomas (San Diego State)-Big-bodied DE.Played 3-4 DE,4-3DE and moved inside to 3-Tech.Has a quick get-off and a pretty refined set of pass rush moves. His size gives him versatility to move inside on occasion.Has a powerful first punch.Worked really well through traffic.Needs to get better at disengaging when blocked. Was less effective late in games so his stamina might need work. The non-Power 5 version of Aidan Hutchinson in this class.

George Karlaftis (Purdue)-Prototypical size DE.Has a quick get-off with a powerful core.Beat Big Ten Tackles with Speed & power.Does have a variety of pass rush moves.Doesn’t have much Bend.Wasn’t as physical as he should be in run Defense.Sometimes seemed confused where to take on a run Blocker.

Tier 3

Kingsley Enagbare (South Carolina)-Big DE who played some 3-Tech.showed a high Motor and looked really light on his Feet for his weight. Was a good Tackler in space.Won with power and rushes with impressive Speed at his weight.Still a really raw technician.Played with Blinders on often ignoring Run Defense.

Boye Mafe (Minnesota)-One of the best athletes in this Edge class.Rushed out of a 2-point stance.Has one of the quickest get-offs.Can beat Blockers with Speed.Has very quick Feet. His pass rush arsenal is still spotty but has improved a lot.Has spotty work as a run defender where he did get moved off gaps or struggle to get back inside.

Myjai Sanders (Cincinnati)-Long DE with 4-3 or 3-4 versatility.Reminds me of Jaguars’ Josh Allen.Showed a great get-off with which he beat a lot of OTs at the snap.Uses his long Arms really well to beat Blockers with an Arsenal of swipe, rip and swim moves.Showed surprising power when having to set the Edge vs. the run.Lost his Balance too easy when Blockers attacked him at the Hips and below.

David Ojabo (Michigan)-3-4 Edge with some Top Level Athleticism.Flies off the Edge and got to the Backfield quick.Showed a surprisingly versatile Pass rush Technique for a recent Football convert with cross chops, spin moves, underhooks and straight-up speed rushes.Looked really rough vs. the run.Poor run defender.Couldn’t set the Edge to save his Life and constantly got moved off gaps.

Isaiah Thomas (Oklahoma)-Big 3-4 DE who played quite a few snaps at 3-Tech.Really impressed me while watching his Teammates (Perkins,Bonnito).Quick and sudden off the snap.Showed a powerful Bull rush but also nice swim moves. Was very comfortable rushing the B gap.Had some trouble defending the run, especially when he played inside.

Logan Hall (Houston)-Athletic DT who mostly aligned at 3-Tech in College but will probably move to DE in the NFL due to his lack of size for the interior D Line..Very athletic with a quick get-off.Shows his power early and showed an impressive Bullrush and Long Arm Technique. Also showed an effective spin move. When lined up at 3-Tech he often got overwhelmed in Run Defense and by Double Teams.

Michael Clemons (Texas A&M)-Edge rusher with prototypical Size and really good Athleticism.Showed some really good chop, rip & swim moves.Has a really good power base, which gave him good success as a power rusher. As a run defender he was good at setting the Edge, though he could be more dominant given his size.Is a bit stiff and doesn’t have any bend.

Zachary Carter (Florida)-Big,Athletic DE with long Arms who took a lot of snaps at 3-Tech.Projects best as a Full time DE in the NFL.Has a quick get-off.Showed good Power.Had a nice swim move.Set the Edge really well vs. the run and was able to penetrate the backfield for TFL.His Pass rush Technique still needs refinement.

Tier 4

Josh Paschal (Kentucky)-Big-Bodied Edge who played a lot of 3-Tech.Has a great power Base, often beat Blockers with his first punch. Was much more effective rushing inside in A & B Gaps. His Technique is violent but wild.Is an impressive open field Tackler.Rushing on the outside he was a lot less effective due to his lack of quickness, flexibility and finesse. On run Defense he often got stood up on Blocksand failed to disengage.

Tyreke Smith (Ohio State)-Athletic DE.Was quick off the snap.Won rushing on the outside & in the B Gap.Showed good Bend and decent Technique with swipe and rip moves.Struggled to set the Edge vs. the run.Got moved off his Gap by Blockers in run defense.

Nik Bonnito (Oklahoma)-Undersized 3-4 OLB/Edge.Can play on and off the Ball. Was pretty good in coverage though Oklahoma didn’t ask much of him mostly just covering the flat and roaming the middle.Won with his Speed and high Motor as a pass rusher.Showed good swipe technique.Doesn’t have a power element.Had Problems disengaging from Blocks.Had no real Plan B.Wasn’t a particularly good run blocker.

Travon Walker (Georgia)-Big Edge.Athletic Freak. Was mainly used as an Edge setter against the run.Had a really effective Bullrush and was hard to control because of his power..Was an impressive Open Field Tackler at his size.As a converted DT his Pass rush Technique is still really raw and rudimentary.

Drake Jackson (USC)-Long DE with really long Arms.Has a really quick get-off.Used his power and athleticism to win.Rarely used Technique to win though he did flash a great spin and rip move. Was a really bad Tackler, which is a reason why i wouldn’t use him as a 3-4 Edge.Had issues vs. the run like failing to set the Edge or getting trapped by pulling Linemen.

Jesse Luketa (Penn State)-Slightly undersized Edge.Usually aligned in a 4-3 defense that sometimes changed to a 3-4 DE role.Has a quick get-off and shows his power early.Used his Arms nicely to gain advantage with stab,,swim and rip moves. As a run defender he could beat OTs inside to stop rushers behind the LOS but he also got easily blocked by TEs and FBs too many times.Generally didn’t show the best instincts against the run.

DeAngelo Malone (Western Kentucky)-Undersized 3-4 Edge with good Length and long Arms. Was quick off the Ball and showed some Pop.Did win with Speed by quick looping Tackles.Showed some impressive physicality for being undersized as a rusher and by setting the Edge vs. the run.Is gonna have to drop back into coverage a lot more in the NFL with more specific Pass rush situations.Could still show a more refined Pass rush Technique. His size is still the ultimate concern.

Tier 5
Sam Williams (Ole Miss)-Played 3-4 DE.Has a quick get-off.Can convert speed to power fast.”Feast or Famine” type pass rusher.Once he was blocked he was completely unable to counter or disengage.Has gotten better in Run Defense but still shows major issues with plugging gaps and working through trash.I think he’s better off losing 10lbs. and moving to 3-4 OLB.

Alex Wright (UAB)-Long Edge Defender with prototypical size.Has long Arms, which is his main asset.Has good straight line speed.Showed a decent swim move. Was decent at setting the Edge and could crash down some gaps for run stops.Has to rush from a 2 point stance as it takes him too long to get up from a 3-point stance.Looks really awkward moving laterally and in space with his long limbs, very deer-like.A very raw project.

Amare Barno (Virginia Tech)-Long but undersized Edge.Has top athleticism with good explosiveness.Has a quick get-off.Showed good hand placement and could convert speed-to-power.Needs to expand his pass rush technique though he showed a good spin move once in a while. As a run defender with 240lbs. he does have clear limits and would be most effective in a 3-4 Edge role.

Tier 6
Demetrious Taylor (Appalachian State)-Short but stout DE.Played a lot of DT, even Nose Tackle in college.Looked solid defending the run and was a pass rush Threat by overpowering Linemen..His Technique is really raw and he mostly won with Brute strength vs. Sun Belt competition. It’s gonna be really difficult with his short Size/Arms to win in the NFL.

LaBryan Ray (Alabama)-Big Edge. Was mostly used as a run Defender on obvious running downs.Set the Edge pretty well and could stand up against run Blockers.Kept gap discipline. As a pass rusher he is very limited. Was reduced to being a pocket pusher.Showed 0 pass rush moves.Severely lacks in Athleticism and bend.

Kyron Johnson (Kansas)-Small Edge rusher with Top End Athleticism.Won with speed in both pass defense and as a run defender. He will have to convert to an off-ball LB role with a more designated pass rush role as he is way undersized for the NFL.He really struggled to hold his own as a pass rusher.

Any chance Boye Mafe falls to 61? That's my dream

Defensive Tackle

Tier 1

Devonte Wyatt (Georgia)-Stout 3-Tech DT.Was ridiculously quick off the snap and often beat Guards right there with that lateral quickness.Looked surprisingly quick when chasing QBs.He plays low and uses his leverage.Showed refined and violent Hand usage. He did show weaknesses in Run Defense where he didn’t have much success against Blockers & Double Teams.

Tier 2

Perrion Winfrey (Oklahoma)-Athletic DT with long Arms.Played 3-Tech but mostly Nose.Has a powerful first punch with very nice Hand Technique.Has the Athleticism to occasionally attack outside as a pass rusher.Often had to align at Nose Tackle, which he doesn’t have the size for.Was sometimes slow out the gates, which he overcompensated with false start penalties.Even at his more natural 3-Tech position he has to improve his Effort as a Run Defender.

Jordan Davis (Georgia)-Big, explosive DT who will play Nose Tackle.Showed that he can eat up Blocks.Showed some violent Hands.Almost certainly will be a really good Run Blocker in the NFL.As with most NTs his pass rush is severely limited unless there’s a miscommunication or mistake he prob won’t get many sacks. Is probably limited to a 2-down player.

Travis Jones (UCONN)-Big DT who lined up at Nose Tackle.Moves well for a bigger DT.Has gap discipline and had no trouble with taking on and even get penetration against Double TeamsAs a pass rusher he showed a quick get-off and an effective Bullrush and swipe move.Showed a high Motor at his weight, enough to be a 3 down Linemen. At his size his pass rush upside is obviously still limited.

Tier 3

Haskell Garrett (Ohio State)-Slightly undersized 3-Tech.Showed great quickness off the snap.Displayed violent Hands, making Interior OL uncomfortable. Was an absolute Threat as an interior pass rusher.Plays with a low pad level giving him some leverage. Not a run stuffer but blew up a lot of runs by getting in the backfield.Seemed to have shorter Arms.

Neil Farrell jr (LSU)-DT with good Size.Lined up at Nose as well as 3-Tech.I think he fits best as a big Pass-rushing 3-Tech in the NFL.Is light on his Feet.Plays quicker than he looks.Often surprised interior Linemen with his quick get-off.Was successful attacking Linemen’s shoulders and possesses a quick, effective swipe move.Struggled to get anything done against double Teams.Has relatively short Arms for a DT.Didn’t penetrate the Backfield as a run Defender.Didn’t show the best Motor.

Tier 4

Phidarian Mathis (Alabama)-DT with good Size.Mostly worked as a 3-Tech with some snaps at NT.Showed good gap discipline and Hand placement.Has a fairly effective Bull rush and was good at closing the Pocket.Moves well in space and was a good open Field Tackler.Showed good Athleticism.Didn’t show a refined pass rush set.Showed some inconsistent Run Defense and had trouble vs. Double Teams.

Eyioma Uwazurike (Iowa State)-DT with good Size.Aligned at 3-4 DE & NT.He could set the Edge and push the pocket with pretty good agility in small space. Will ultimately be a 3-4 DE as he had Problems shedding Blockers and was too easily moved by Double Teams at NT.His pass rush Technique consists of a pretty effective Bull rush and not much more.

Tier 5

John Ridgeway (Arkansas)-Big DT who mostly aligned at NT.He was a good Pocket pusher with an effective Bull Rush and Long Arm Technique. He’s quick out the Blocks.Plays with a low pad level which helps his leverage. He was an o.k Run Defender who can work through trash but he had Problems when taking on Double Teams. Is a subpar Athlete.I see him as a rotational Nose Tackle in the NFL.

Tier 6

Thomas Booker (Stanford)-Slightly undersized DT.Played all over the D Line at NT,3-Tech or DE.Has nimble Feet.Is a Top Tier Athlete.Doesn’t seem to know what he was doing on the Field. As a Run Defender he got moved easily and struggled to shed Blocks. As a Pass rusher he showed 0 Pass rush Technique or Plan.He also looked timid and wasn’t a strong Tackler.Being constantly moved along the D Line also hurt him.His best chance is losing 10-15lbs. and being a Big Edge Defender in the NFL.

@KOQ24 thoughts on Bonitto?

Really effective Speed rusher in College.
His size (probably played around 235lbs.) is a concern as an every down pass rusher. He'll most likely play more Off Ball LB in the NFL with a designated pass rusher role.
