The NASCAR race was a strange one two as Chase Elliott and Martin Truex were battling for the lead with about 15 laps left. Truex passed on the inside but didn't quite clear Elliott by a few inches. Truex was committed so he couldn't make the corner without moving up the track and Elliott wasn't backing off. They touched and both tagged the wall. They were able to keep going but had tire problems which allowed Harvick to take the lead and hold off Austin Dillion for the win. Elliott finished 20th and Truex 22nd. If Elliott had just backed off slightly, Truex might have it the wall or Elliott finishes second to Truex.
Harvick's crew chief made the decision to pit early for tires at least twice in the race to be able to run faster laps while the leaders waited. If there had been a caution before the leaders pitted, Harvick would have been a lap down. They also needed a caution after the leaders pitted to get tires and fuel. When the caution did come out, the cars that had pitted 10 laps earlier still had to come or risk being overtaken by cars with fresher tires.
