2020 Motorsports thread.

Lewis needs an engineer just to hold his hat and his little elastic band for him, while he sets up his ponytail !!

HAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAhahahahahAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHahahhahahahahhahahhahahh

She also took the elastic band off herself and straightened his dreadlocks when he was getting ready to get back into the car, lmao

Took bad Sainz didn´t have another 2 laps to win it. Either way a nice race without the fucking diva on podium or any of the usual teams/drivers.

haHA i noticed that as well !! i actually dont mind Gasly won over Sainz, the kid is a good kid and did awesome job ... either way,

Yeah. Lewis and gio just happened to be there before it was known by the teams. Bad luck. Lewis can still break schumis record in Germany if he wins the next couple. Would have been good to see him tie the record in Italy and break in Germany. Give someone else the win in Russia.

I've heard that the pit closed indication is on the fourth timing and scoring screen. I suspect that will be changed in the future.
Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff said: "It was a weird sequence of events that maybe we could have spotted earlier.

"The decisions taken were highly unusual but absolutely within the rules.

"The Haas was parked to the right, almost behind the entry by the rail on the inside of Parabolica, and there was a single yellow and 11 seconds later a safety car was deployed. I don't know why. We couldn't understand. And when it was deployed they closed the entry to the pit lane.

"But it wasn't red - it was two yellow crosses on the outside and we spotted it at the last minute. One of the strategists back home shouted into the radio as we were coming into the pit lane.

"No-one looks at page four (of the timing screens) and it is just a sequence of events that screwed Lewis's race. Not happy, but you have to take it on the chin."

NASCAR closes the pits on a full course caution and they don't open until the field lines up behind the safety car.

Formula One doesn't normally close the pits on a safety car. Mercedes also said that the lights were yellow when the pit closed indication was supposed to be red. This might be a case where it appears yellow on a television screen but is red to the human eye.

In the long run, it won't make any difference in the Championship.

The NASCAR race was a strange one two as Chase Elliott and Martin Truex were battling for the lead with about 15 laps left. Truex passed on the inside but didn't quite clear Elliott by a few inches. Truex was committed so he couldn't make the corner without moving up the track and Elliott wasn't backing off. They touched and both tagged the wall. They were able to keep going but had tire problems which allowed Harvick to take the lead and hold off Austin Dillion for the win. Elliott finished 20th and Truex 22nd. If Elliott had just backed off slightly, Truex might have it the wall or Elliott finishes second to Truex.

Harvick's crew chief made the decision to pit early for tires at least twice in the race to be able to run faster laps while the leaders waited. If there had been a caution before the leaders pitted, Harvick would have been a lap down. They also needed a caution after the leaders pitted to get tires and fuel. When the caution did come out, the cars that had pitted 10 laps earlier still had to come or risk being overtaken by cars with fresher tires.

Kind of annoying that Truex wouldn't take full blame for it. It's a race for the win in the playoffs with 15 laps left and you're questioning why Chase didn't back off to let you have the spot once you drove in over your head? Kind of a head scratcher there. Not a real big fan of Truex. Chase got robbed at Darlington yet again.

Pissed that it handed Harvick yet another win. It's like damn anyone but him or Hamlin at this point.

Watching DTM from Assen in the rain.
only audi and bmw left in the series?
fun to watch but maybe pull the plug.

Truex was clearly faster and could have waited a couple of more laps as there were 13 to go, but he got a run. Chase wasn't going to hold him off. It's possible to block a faster car for a few laps but it's risky as the faster guy behind can easily tap the leader going into a turn. Elliotts only chance to win once Truex got alongside was to back off and try the crossover. Truex might have hit the wall without taking Chase with him. In the playoff format, finishing second is much better than crashing. Elliott was lucky to get 20th.

Meanwhile, Harvick was just hanging out in third trying to gather as many points as possible for the three race first stage and got the win because of the actions of both drivers ahead of him. The team had taken some risks to get Harvick toward the front by pitting early to have better tires. Harvick didn't fight the faster cars when they caught him. That was probably why he had good enough tires to win the race.

I'm not saying it was the correct decision by Chase but he had every right to have his car in the position it was in when Truex came up and made contact with him. It's one thing if a guy doesn't have position on the inside going into a corner and he tries to jam it in there but trying to dictate whether the car on the outside should back off or not is some European "race meddling" bullshit IMO. It's up to the car on the inside to not drive in too hard to wipe out the car on the outside. It's not up to the car on the outside to accommodate a guy on the inside who got in the corner too hot.

Yeah it seemed like Harvick learned from that previous run where he dropped off quite a bit before pit stops. He ran a smart race and won on pure luck. Was really rooting for Dillon at the end there but he just couldn't quite figure it out.

Perez announced he is out of the Racing Point car after the season in Formula One when it becomes Aston Martin. Maybe Vettel is the next driver or maybe it's one of the Formula 2 drivers.

It isn't about being right. I'm reminded of an Archie comic book cover from the 1960s. Archie and Jughead are in a rowboat with a huge ship about to hit them. Archie is rowing hard with sweat pouring off his head. Jughead is reading the rules of the sea and saying, "Don't worry, according to this, we have the right of way."

Same thing with a pedestrian crosswalk. Pedestrians in a crosswalk have the right of way but it won't keep them from being killed if they get hit by a vehicle.

Truex got to the position he was in. He had to move up to make the corner. Slowing or braking wouldn't allow him to get behind Chase to move up. I don't think there would even have been time for Truex to drop back alongside Chase and use 8 tires to turn the corner putting Chase into the wall. I don't even think that Chase turning down and spinning Truex could have saved Chase because he needed to be in the high line to make the corner. Only a slight slowing by Chase could have prevented Chase hitting the wall at that point. It didn't matter if it was Truex's fault for being in that position. Chase was the only one who could have avoided the collision and getting his car damaged.

Even if NASCAR had a rule about not completing a pass and held Truex responsible, Chase still hit the wall and ruined his chance for a good finish when a good finish really matters.

Jimmy Johnson is going to Race Indy cars next year. Kind of a strange career move. He'll be 45 next week.

The Ferrari's were running near the top of the field in the first practice but Leclerc was 10th and Vettel 12th in the second practice. Bottas was fastest in practice. Hamilton and Verstappen .2 seconds down. Albon .9 seconds back and everyone else over a second per lap back. Vettel's car shut down with a bang on track at the end of the session.

Perez announced he is out of the Racing Point car after the season in Formula One when it becomes Aston Martin. Maybe Vettel is the next driver or maybe it's one of the Formula 2 drivers.
Pick Hulkenberg back up. No confidence in Vettel anymore.

Gonna be interesting. The car ain't half bad this year and they pushed the new regulations out another year didn't they..

The regulations will be the same and I think Aston Martin is still going to be using the Mercedes powerplant. Of course the engines Mercedes provides Aston Martin won't be as powerful as the ones they use in their own cars.

A quick end to the Pierre Gasly hype as he fails to make it into the top 15 in the first qualifying session.

Hamilton claims the pole over Bottas with Verstappen .4 back, Albon .8 back and Leclerc over a second slower in 5th.

Watching the Formula 2 race this morning and it became apparent that the Mugello circuit is poorly designed and poorly operated as a telehandler is required to remove disabled cars from the track. There aren't sufficient places to get disabled cars off the track and not sufficient equipment to do it with. The result was very long safety car periods.

Pretty uneventful Indycar race at Mid Ohio. Everybody seemed to be on good behavior, maybe because they have to race again Sunday. Will Power started out front and ran away with it.

Problems with Verstappen's car on the starting grid again. They had it torn apart after the anthem.
