Elections 2016 Democratic National Convention

As those young leftist flock toward Stein I would wage moderate Republicans will flock to Johnson. He offers the taxation they want without the deep seeded populist / and social conservatism the RNC are pushing.

We'll see next week what the polls will be like

Any word on the viewership stats?

I think Johnson is likely nearing his peak. Older generations are far too invested in the two-party dichotomy, and those who are smart enough not to be will also likely be smart enough to realize Johnson is worse than Hillary in every way other than foreign policy and worse than Trump in many ways other than temperment.

Worst than Trump on gay rights? Drug decriminalization? Abortions? In which way is Johnson worst than trump?

He's making a great case for Hillary supporting down ticket democrats.

Why wouldn't the democratic party support Hillary? They have done far more to push forward the democratic platform than Bernie. They have worked at all levels of government.

Bernie just worked to promote Bernie.

Your take on the Democratic Party appears somewhat shallow (re: "push forward"), I'm afraid. Establishment stars like Kaine and Booker have been instrumental and unyielding in preventing financial regulation, encouraging privatization, promoting bourgeois taxation, engaging in neoliberal war profiteering, and hindering progress in the arenas of environmentalism and labor rights.

The Democratic establishment, comprised largely of failed Republicans as of late, has done very little to progress the platform following its sharp pull to the right in the 90s.

I’m regularly accused of believing things that I’ve never said and don’t believe. That’s largely a facet of the fact that, on the internet today, arguing with people is really a matter of misrepresenting what they’re saying and then attacking the misrepresentation. One of the most constant of these is that I say “both parties are the same.” I’ve never said that. Ever. In my life. But over time, the claims of friends who do say that have been vindicated over and over again.

By that I mean something very simple: my communist friends who really do say that the two parties are the same make predictions about politics. My Democrat friends do the same. Looking back at the times when the two groups have clashed, the commies have been right literally 100% of the time.

I get accused of being a “Naderite,” though in fact I voted for Gore in the first election I was old enough to vote in. (I’ve come to regret that decision over time.) The Democrats said that left-wing critics of the party would be welcomed into the fold; the commies told me that the Democrats hate the left and always would. The commies were right. The Democrats told me that anti-Iraq war voices would be an important slice of the party in the debates to come. The commies told me Democrats and their representatives in the media would engage in redbaiting eliminationism like we’d never seen before. The commies were right. The Democrats told me that a candidate like Howard Dean, who at the time was running as an explicitly left-wing challenger to the Democrat establishment, would have a great chance at the nomination; my commie friends said that the Democrats and their surrogates in the media would destroy Dean. The commies were right.

The tone of this convention is much more mature than anything Scott Baio has been a part of.

You're right. I was speaking too harshly and absolutely.

But I have no reason to believe Trump is actually a hardliner on reproductive rights or marriage equality, both of which Johnson has unenthusiastically conceded.

Johnson is worse in that he wants to enact massive privatization and the abolition of important social programs and economic institutions, and eliminate labor rights, as well as expand the prison industry. Ideologically, Johnson is far more radical than Trump.

Need an encore from Booker. Complete with spinaroonie.

White Bill Cosby is doing a pretty good job of making Hillary borderline human-ish.
