The Lakers tites all came in years when the league was weak. If the warriors had dumped ellis the year they drafted Curry they would have beat that championship lakers team in 6.

I'm not sure why more lake fans arent asking why Jeannie didn't fire herself as well. She's been apart of this terrible front office and it was her idea to give Kobe that stupid contract. Bunch of white knights itt
Should have paid him more if anything.

lmao ok.

I'm not exactly jumping for joy on what went down. This was basically Year 1 of the true rebuild. Mitch went with the conventional wisdom picks with the 1st rounders and found gems in the second round. He could also make a good trade every here and there.

His biggest weakness was in free agency where he wasn't a great closer and put money in questionable signings. That's where Magic should have came in.

The story is that she was letting Jim Buss make all the big decisions when it came to the basketball side. The impression I got was that she didn't agree with much of his moves, but I do admit it's easy to say that in retrospect.

For instance, most of the "presentations" to the major free agents were reported to be disasters. It's likely that those players wouldn't have joined the Lakers either way, but it's a very bad look to have pitches that are out of touch.

I'm also guessing that behind closed doors Mitch might have been a Jim Buss "yes" man, which meant he had to go.

Mitch Kupchak has been a member of the Lakes family for well over three decades, both as a player and GM. In this time he contributed to 10 NBA championships. In Jan 2015 his daughter dies tragically at age 15. The Lakes fire him 25 months later.

Yeah I'm sure his daughter's death had nothing to do with that. There's a slim chance that basketball might not have been the first thing on his mind. But hey, 35 years, 10 championships, that's in the past. We've had a bad few years so sorry Mitch we're gonna have to unceremoniously fire you like we would fire any bum on a 10 day contract.

Classy stuff

for the sake of argument, what might've been the better way to go?

The Lakers won 5 titles in the greatest era of all time, the 00's, @Breakitdown tell him

I mean if you're really hellbent on getting rid of him maybe just do what plenty of teams do and give him the option to retire on his own

But that would still be pretty lame. I think it's weird that the same guy involved in signing Shaq, trading for Kobe, trading for Pau, trading for Dwert, had a deal in place that nearly landed them Chris Paul, etc etc etc suddenly became an incompetent GM overnight. Also kinda weird that this purported incompetence just so happened to coincide with the Buss kids taking over for Jerry and Mitch's daughter tragically dying after a lengthy illness.

portzingus bout to get it in with this thot

Fucking lol @ Magic hitting up Jeanie after her break up with Phil.

He might actually be a good exec. Dude is on his Game of Thrones right now.
