16 Greatest HW’s of all time

Good job, nice system.
The only problem is for fighter who are temporarily unranked but still should count as top 10 wins. Werdum and Ngannou got 0 points for beating Cain.
And more importantly, what happens to whoever beats Jones next?

I would suggest that any title defense should be worth 10 points, regardless of the opponent.
But then what titles count? PRIDE? UFC? Strikeforce? Bellator?
Do guys like Sylvia, Arlovski, Couture, Lesnar, etc. get points for defending the UFC title when Fedor was the #1 HW?
Are we gonna give Fedor credit for defending the WAMMA title 3x in Affliction and Strikeforce when it was rightfully the #1 HW title in the world?

The fuck ... where did you get these rankings from? When was Schilt ever #2 and why the fuck is Nakamura listed as #6 on Barnett's record? Dude was a middleweight for fucks sake. Not to mention there is no control for strength of the division. This point system is scuffed as hell.

Only UFC and Pride, according to TS idea.

I kinda wanna say what I think about this so called 'system', but it looks like someone put some genuine effort into it so I will refrain, but imagine putting Lesnar and Gane over Crocop to start out the list with. I will leave it at that.
CroCop has never been the champ and only managed to beat 2 top10 fighters and one of them is Heath Herring, lol. He was possibly the 3rd best guy of his era, that’s about it.

Stipe at number 1

giphy.gif
You don’t like facts do you? Stipe beat 8 top5 guys, while Fedor only beat 4. Strength of competition matters

This needs CONTEXT to be taken seriously. Stipe's win over JDS is questionable since JDS was not the man he used to be. In his prime he killed Stipe

You don’t like facts do you? Stipe beat 8 top5 guys, while Fedor only beat 4. Strength of competition matters

The fact you need to shift it to "top 5" I think is telling for this era of HW were basically "top 10" has really stopped having much meaning as quality has dropped off although really any rankings from the early/mid 00's are not going to be that standardised anyway nore was match making set up so that fighters met at their ranking peak.

Besides that though Stipe's big weakness is that he consistently lost fights, his longest winning run is 6 fights over 2 1/2 years were as Fedor's even if you start from the TK "loss" was 28 fights over 8 1/2 years.

Rankings wise I think....

1.Fedor
2.Nog
3-8.Werdum, Cain, JDS, Crocop, Stipe, Barnett

You could divide the chasing group up via what you value more in their careers but I don't think it would really be a defintive case, maybe Barnett a little behind the rest.

Thank you for your research @acannrx, I’ll use your thread as a base, although your approach is a bit flawed, because beating #10 guy isn’t the same as beating the #1 guy. So a better system would be a point based system. A win over #1 guy equals 10 points and a win over #10 guy equals 1 point. So let’s begin:

It's cool but dont make mistake people, thats what you are getting with these two forum nerds

Anyways solid list for the most part

This is why I believe in the difference between GOAT and BOAT (Greatest vs Best).

Greatest is more objective ie. Who has the best body of work/ resumé?
Best is more subjective ie. Who do you think was the best in their prime?

GOAT is Stipe followed by Fedor, BOAT for me is Daniel Cormier or Fedor. Francis or Gane could steal that eventually though.

Not terrible. Rankings like this are hard to do because of the different competition level at different times. Not really possible to be totally objective.

CroCop has never been the champ and only managed to beat 2 top10 fighters and one of them is Heath Herring, lol. He was possibly the 3rd best guy of his era, that’s about it.

Cro Cop was champ. Grand Prix is world championship by tournament system. Pride had 2 titles and 2 systems that intercharged.

Don't use Fightmatrix.
Fightmatrix did not exist before 2008, it has no relevance for Pride era, and it had no impact on how MMA scene and people viewed and valued fighters real time while it happened. You need to research original and authentic media rankings from those times, and that requires a lot more effort and time.

Cro Cop has 10 Top 10 wins by authentic original media rankings from those times.

MIRKO FILIPOVIC

1. Kazuyuki Fujita
2. Kazushi Sakuraba (ranked MW)
3. Kazuyuki Fujita
4. Heath Herring
5. Igor Vovchanchyn
6. Josh Barnett
7. Kevin Randleman
8. Josh Barnett
9. Wanderlei Silva
10. Josh Barnett

His wins over Vovchanchyn, Randlema, Coleman are the same thing as younger guys like Blaydes, Gagne, Ngannou beating older legends like JDS, Cain, Arlovski... and recording Top 10 wins based on that.

Lol At Stipe being number one. He didn’t ever beat anyone good who was in their prime. Ever !!

and Gane already ahead of Mirko? TS gone full retard(again)

Stipe was number one for TS by beating past or not yet In prime guys while Timmy whose title ufc reign record Stipe broke gets no love at all.

Like @acannxr, I only used UFC/Pride champions for this list. This is the most objective unbiased system I’ve could come up with!

EDIT: Alistair Overeem added to the list
Numbers alone without context is just plain wrong.
Junior, at the time Miocic fought him the second time .
Same for DC. He was already quitting MMA and obviously not the same as at his peak, etc...
The above is Just to provide some examples....not to demean DC alone.

Have you ever heard of PRIDE FC?
Yes of course. Still don't know how Timmy is #7? Also as some mentioned losses should be factored in somehow but its all subjective and no way to scientifically prove.

Anyway its a good topic to discuss on an MMA forum. (Maybe we can leave Sherdog and find one! LOL) Glad PPV buys and net worth of fighters wasn't a factor.
