$1.8 Billion Powerball lotto tonight

Every lottery story always ends in poverty, shame, or death.

I like to imagine that I'd be different if I won. I'd live a rather humble lifestyle and do some philanthropy, never speaking about the money.

The truth. It is the most degenerate form of gambling.

I beg to differ on account of a story I heard of a man who gambled his underaged daughter and lost it to a wealthy man, my mom knows the daughter of the woman who was lost in a game of cards.

I think gambling away your descendants is a notch above spending $2 on a powerball ticket when the jackpot pays out 1.5x the “fair” price in relation to the odds of winning it after taxes.
With a pot this size you basically get a +150 line when +100 would be fair, even better if you choose annuity.

I'll trust your expertise on degenerate gambling.

Poor suckers. Have to split their winnings.

That 4 bucks I won is all mine though!

If you win, will it make you significantly happier?

Like Elon Musk?

Huh? Nobody is putting up their wedding ring to by a few lines for the lottery. Unless you have a real problem and are dropping thousands of dollars on lottery tickets every week, it's probably the most harmless form of gambling. I also don't know where people get this "poor people tax" thing, when every class of person plays the lottery.

I think 97% of people should take the annuity instead of the lump sum.

Yes, I know if you invest the lump sum you'll get more in the long run, but I think most people aren't equipped to handle all that money at once and they're likely to screw it up and blow most of all of it before they learn how to manage it.

If you take the annuity you can screw up every year for like a decade and still be rich.
