on january 1st, 2001, SEG (RIP) sold the UFC to ZUFFA. on february 23rd, ZUFFA had their first event: UFC 30: Battle on the boardwalk.
my first zuffa/UFC memory: UFC 41, when a fattened, but possibly roided (i can't recall), tim sylvia wrecked ricco (gif not included)
memorable moments:
-- the announcement of hughes vs. royce gracie, which was a huge let-down in our household, because we knew royce was possibly going to die (his stand-up looked better than hughes though)
-- greasegate
-- GSP's last fight when ZUFFA officials tried to keep him out of the post-fight press conference
-- the buying of strikeforce (not pride, because most people knew that was going to happen after PRIDE LV)
-- chris weidman knocking out a dancing anderson silva
-- brock lesnar losing to frank murr
-- matt serra knocking-out GSP
-- jon jones and jackson destroying ufc 151 (rightfully, too) and dana white flipping out
-- chuck liddell losing his title to rampage (i thought chuck was going to KO him, too, and i lost money)
-- UFC banning josh gross because he revealed the TUF results on sherdog radio
-- mark hunt vs. big foot
-- bisping knocking-out luke cuckold
-- the first FOX card, when we waited six years for a fight that lasted 30 seconds
