Way back in the fucking 80s when I was growing up, it was already known that this idea that you'll be thrown free and saved by NOT wearing a seatbelt is an extreme outlier.

In the vast majority of cases not wearing a seatbelt is just gonna get you fucked up. Like we knew this in the 80s and there was another whole fucking awareness campaign in the early 00s when I was a young adult.

Idiocracy was truly the greatest documentary of our time 🤡

It mostly pisses me off because I have a motorcycle as well and I can't get my head around how I'm allowed to ride that without a helmet even and that's fine. But I can get pulled over in a safer vehicle than my motorcycle and have to pay a fine for putting myself at danger.
Seatbelts stop you from killing the person sitting beside you - When you're on the bike you're on your own.

Being able to see a vehicle speeding through a red light about to T-bone you, and being able to get out of the way of said vehicle is not the same thing. Willingly forging simple safety precautions in the belief that some sort of heightened situational awareness is going to save you from any sort of accident that could occur is not the watermark of intelligence
This right here.

I'm paranoid, situational awareness on fucking 15/10 at all times, but some things just happen too fast.

I witnessed an accident, thank something I was a car back, last year where a drugged up guy came off an interstate exit at 85mph, ran the red light at the exit and just smashed the car in front of me, and nobody saw it coming. The exit kind of ran uphill, so from the road where we were you couldn't really see what was coming up. Shit was terrifying.

I get what he's saying but it's still stupid. Could you get stuck and not be able to get out because of the seat belt? Yes but you are much more likely to be thrown from the vehicle and killed if you aren't wearing a seat belt. Also they make "cutters" that you can keep in you vehicle in order to cut the seat belt if needed. I actually have one.

Not True. Not wearing a seatbelt puts others at risk as well. There can and has been cases where drivers/passengers not wearing seatbelts, in a head-on collision, have been ejected through their windshield and through the windshield of the other car. You might argue that you have the right to put your own life at risk, but you don't have the right to be come through another car's windshield like a meat-seeking missile.

I tell people to wear a seat belt when riding with me because if we crash I don't want their body, joints, skull flailing at me and ending up causing me more injuries than the crash would've otherwise

Same reason I don't like having tools laying on the instrument panel, like a wrench or something. I don't want that shit in the face if something happens.

Bryce doesn't need to pull out as he clearly has slow swimmers

By the same logic driving a car puts others at risk as well so you can just go ahead and ban cars entirely.

That's a great point what if he has to duck and roll.... Shit I never thought about that!

I haven't gone through the thread but I think what Bryce is saying probably came from some conservative talking point about govt overreach. There was an article from Reason or something that said everything that the govt did to improve road safety like mandatory seatbelts, federal motor vehicle safety standards, etc didn't improve things.
