would you rather deadlift 600lbs or master one arm pull Up?

Glad you were able to overcome it. How long were you out of the gym?

Probably six or seven weeks.

I was walking the same day, believe it or not. No long stretches, but I remember I went to my judo class to tell my sensei I won't be participating for a bit in the evening after having the surgery in the morning.

When I did go back to the gym I eased into it. I seem to recall doing body weight movement first to test myself at home and was very careful about it.

I went to judo maybe in less than a month or a month? I'd only do things like hold downs, arm locks, chokes -- basically demonstration techniques that didn't require any sudden movement. I wasn't about to throw someone, be thrown or do ground fighting. Gentle things to move my body but not endanger my healing process.

Getting surgery is not the end of the world. It is trauma to your body and it should be respected. And IMHO, it is good to periodically give your body a break from weights.

Surgery is nothing compared to tearing your rotator cuff, which I have also done. Surgery is a cake walk.

Trying to bring this back on topic after my dead lift surgery story.... I was watching this guy on Youtube that is from the Ukraine and goes by the handle of Mustang Wanted and he can do some incredibly strong functional movements with one arm pullups, as well as other things as an urban climber. I know he is only walking around at 140 pounds, but the strength this kid has in his hands is unreal. He has the supreme confidence to hang off a building ledge with one hand by his fingers.

There is a clip of him doing one arm chins. Don't try this stuff kids!

Death wish right there. I would never in a million years do that.

It wasn't even a chinup, it was a pullup! Impressive.

Actually, I don't think I've seen a single video of a HW doing a one arm strict pullup. I can barely find any small sized dudes doing that. Like this is probably the cleanest I've seen:

I did manage to find this guy though, who's a little over 200lbs. He's a little different, but he's got insane grip and upper body pull strength. Seems nice enough as well:

One arm pullup:

One arm pullup on a bouldering wall:

One arm, one finger chinup:

Weighted chinup with +93,6kg (~205lbs):

215kg (474lbs) DL with double overhand grip no straps:

Weighted negative chinup with +116kg (256lbs) and a 180kg (397lbs) DL with only his middle fingers:

Damn, that is elite level pull-up strength right there. Those fingers though!
