why does UFC owe Jose respect when Jose has no respect for the fans?

Except, this falls outside of any previously understood precedent in the history of the company. You set up an interim champion when your actual champion can't fight over an extended period of time. Here, it's been set up to appease available contenders when faced with a champion who chooses not to defend, for reasons.

By your argument, McGregor serves no functional purpose as champ, other than to parade the belt.

I didn't give Aldo credit for "repeating fights", you made that up. I made the claim that he wasn't holding up a division, by virtue of having already defeated the contenders, as champion, at which point he was now repeating defenses. That's what happens when you reign and defend long enough.

To your point, if McGregor can fight Diaz back-to-back after being finished, then there's little justification for why he can't defend at FW, whether the fight is new (Edgar at the time) or a repeat (Aldo or Holloway), especially now that he owns gold. One way or another, he's effectively holding up the division and relying on the interim champion to do the actual champs work.

But if Aldo keeps winning, McGregor never has to fight ever again, right!? ...or something.

You're full of shit man. Conor hasn't held up the division nearly as long as Aldo did more than once. I don't care if Conor is out there fighting other guys giving us great fights. Holler at me when he has held up the division for over 14 months like Aldo did and then I might be willing to listen to this sissy argument you guys keep hoarding about. But every argument you're making is hypocritical and full of estrogen.

So now the UFC is supposed to give him "free money" even after he refused to take a fight? LoL!

Man, Aldo fans are the biggest pussies I've seen ever on these forums.

Conor Bless.

<17>

Yes. Because one of the most talented fighters in the history of MMA may retire due to perceived mistreatment and disrespect. So YES, pay him to stay around...

There are no rules. Shift your paradigm. Aldo is great, just not incredibly marketable. How does The UFC make him marketable and happy??? 1st Pay him to make him feel respected. Then give him a shot at ALSO being a 2 division Champ, which will make him more marketable!!!

But whatever you do, do not let one of the greatest walk away pissed off and disgusted with the very sport your trying to build. That's just bad business.

Aldo arguably lost that fight to Frankie.
Of course you'd try to argue reality.

And you compare one win after losing to Holloway winning 9 in a row? Do you know math?
It's not a comparison and there is no math involved. The UFC made that one win an interim title fight, because McGregor wouldn't defend. The interim champion fights the actual champ to unify the titles, and that's how we arrive at the conclusion. Either way you slice it, McGregor is stalling the division.

Holler at me [...] I might be willing to listen
TF? You originally quoted me. You can solve this problem and bow out of the thread, lol.

It's not unprecedented. They did the same thing with Noguiera's Interim title and made him fight Mir while Couture was matched up with Lesnar upon his return for the "real" title. Both "titles" changed hands as the challenger won both fights. They then did a unification bout afterwards.

not to mention he didn't really have that many fans in the first place. His PPV buys were awful.

And who gives a fuck. You didnt get any of that money. PPV doesnt mean shit when it comes to whose the best..only to parrot repeaters like conor fans.

You guys suck conors dick like the baddest porn stars on the planet.

Beta males on here talking about ppv buys...like that shit affects you....im here to talk about the actual fights.

To say he didnt have that many fans...

Nobody owes anybody any respect. UFC is going to do what's best for itself, Jose is going to do what's best for himself. Neither is in the wrong. Jose is bitter because he realizes other peoples' needs and perspectives don't align with his. He's entitled to feel like that, and people are entitled to not care.

Connor lives in his head. Wish he would forget about the guy and fight the guy getting screwed the hardest. Sorry Holloway. But nobody will dominate the fw division like Aldo. Give the dude a fat raise for his last couple fights and call it good

Truth is Jose is just being a big cry baby.

The only thing he can really be pissed about is some of the medical crap the UFC was doing with him and his rib in media. Jose has sat on the sidelines for extended times also and held up the division if you want to get technical.

Jose has to understand the UFC is a business and right now Conor is the biggest business in the UFC. Jose has his interim belt so go fight someone. Conor is going to get special treatment and fighters just have to deal with it just like stars in every aspect of life get special treatment. I get everything Jose has done for the UFC and he is one of the best ever but at the same time he was never much of a draw for the UFC.

Bottom line Jose is really just pissed off about $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ that Conor is making.
How many Champs of late have even defended a title??
Fighters get injured it happens...and to defend your title over and over and you children wash over that like it's nothing...then you regurgitate Connie's lines..."He pulled out"
Maybe if more of your father's would have pulled out we would not have so many disrespectful flash in the pan fans....

They happened for two completely different reasons. Randy Couture and the UFC had a contract dispute so they went ahead and had Nog and Mir fight for the Interim title after TUF. During this time Randy came back and they had Lesnar fight for the title. Conor Mcgregor on the other hand is actively fighting in another division, not once, not twice, but three times. Like the original poster said, they did an interim title because Conor is too busy fighting elsewhere. This is not a good justification at all.

He also admits that he changed his style to play it safe and doesn't care if people enjoy his fights or not

That's cool if a fighter does that but then they shouldn't cry when the fans don't want to see him fight and rally for other fighters to get fights over him

He has no respect for the fans of trash-talking, which is understandable. He has respect for the MMA fans though - gives them exciting fights and always tries his best in the cage.

Promotional work is to try and draw new fans in, not to placate the existing ones.

My problem with him is that he doesn't try his best in the cage

He could've sprinted through kenflo, lamas and Jung. But instead he went out to spar and play it safe, because he doesn't give a fuck about whether fans enjoy his fight or not, he took no chances.

What does not shit talking have to do with being disrespectful towards the fans?

I was using it as an indication of his fan base size. When did I ever mention Conor anyway?
