That's a great convo.
Just guessing... that the structure is no longer necessary as a show of power, influence, & ability. That's all they had back then. In today'z information age, we don't need those physical structures to know who's got it & who don't. Also, a lot of big powers don't want or need to show their influence with architecture, they just rool a world in relative silence with their vast wealth.

Back then it was the only way. People would see it & then spread the word. We now spread teh word world wide instantly from our fookin fonez.

Still, we have those that build extravagant modern marvelz. Teh latest one is "Sphere" in Vegas... not exactly teh architecture you're talking about, but still just as architecturally challenging & eye popping to behold.

It would be neat to see someone build a modern version of that style of building.
