It's Official: SPIDER-MAN Joining Marvel Cinematic Universe!
Spider-Man is getting a mighty Marvel makeover. Sony Pictures, which has been the steward of the franchise since 1999, is partnering up with Disney-owned Marvel Studios to bring a new version of the Spider-Man character to life.
Latino Review was the first to report this a few weeks ago.
As part of the revamp, the new Spider-Man will first appear in a Marvel film. The companies are not revealing details but that movie is likely to be Captain America: Civil War; the character was a major player in the comics storyline. Andrew Garfield is not expected to reprise the character.
Once the character is re-launched, Sony will then release a new Spider-Man movie on July 28, 2017. Marvel's Kevin Feige will join Amy Pascal as a producer on the new movie. The duo will "collaborate on a new creative direction for the web slinger," according to the companies. Ari Arad and Matt Tolmach, who were producers on the previous movie, will now executive produce.
There is also talk of looking ways to integrate characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as the Marvel movies are known, into future Spider-Man films. The move is a major team-up for two rival studios. Spider-Man has been Sony's most lucrative franchise, but the most recent installment, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, disappointed. Disney's Marvel has had unprecedented success with its hero films.
Sony, however, will retain the final creative control and continue to finance, distribute, own the new movies.
To make room for Spider-Man, Marvel has pushed back a number of its films. Thor: Ragnarok has been moved to Nov. 3, 2017 from its July 28, 2017 date. Black Panther will now open July 6, 2018, moving from Nov. 3, 2017. Captain Marvel moved to Nov. 2, 2018 from July 6, 2018, while Inhumans is slotted for July 12, 2019, from its original Nov. 2, 2018 date.

Rumor: Sony and Marvel Deal; Spider-Man to Appear in Phase 3
According to news and rumor site
Latino Review, a deal has been struck that will bring Spider-Man to Marvel Studios in time for the two-part Avengers: Infinity War mega-event. The word is that the long talks between Marvel and Sony have finally yielded results in the wake of a wave of criticism aimed at Sony's handling of the franchise following the recent Sony hack.
"I don't have the exact details nor a paper trail, but I'm told we'll see an MCU Spider-Man in Infinity Wars Part 1, as that was the next logical place to insert him after they missed the window to logically include him in Civil War," the report claims. The report also claims that the character will be recast, meaning Andrew Garfield is no longer Spider-Man.
The planned 2016 Spider-Man movie may be cancelled or may be a co-production between Sony and Marvel, says the report, but it won't go forward as originally planned. Given the relatively short production time on The Amazing Spider-Man 2, it's unlikely any immediate announcements will clear all this up, as they would have no need to do so right away.
[Update: When reached by CBR News, a Sony Pictures representative dismissed the report, calling it an "old rumor" with "no validity whatsoever." Whatever. I still believe Latino Review's report.]
Major Spoilers for Phase 3!!! If you discuss the below part, please go to the Avengers or Spider-Man threads and use spoiler tags.
Okay, so it seems Steve Rogers is gonna kick the bucket at the end of Captain America: Civil War. Word is it's the revelation that Bucky was responsible for Howard Stark's death that triggers the bad blood between Steve and Tony, and the end result is Crossbones taking out the Star Spangled Avenger. Info on what happens to Iron Man is vague, but it sounds as if he'll wind up in space somehow. In Thor: Ragnarok, lots of Asgardians will die and be resurrected, and the God of Thunder will be confined to a "galactic prison." This takes 3 of the main Avengers out of the picture for Infinity War Part 1, which will focus on a completely new team, along with Spidey of course! The roster is not yet finalized, but some potentials include: Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, Vision, Black Panther, Dr. Strange, Ant-Man, Wasp, Captain Marvel, Luke Cage, Daredevil, Iron Fist, Jewel/Power Woman, any Guardian of the Galaxy, and any Inhuman. All classic Avengers will be absent from this lineup because the plan is to bring them back for Infinity War Part 2... yes, even the deceased Stevie Rogers.

Sony's Casting Suggestions for SINISTER SIX Movie Revealed
Based on the Sony emails dated May 2014, here are the studio's casting suggestions for the Sinister Six movie. Drew Goddard apparently loved the idea of Tom Hardy playing Sandman, and in one email really pushed for Emily Blunt as Scorpia (who is an actual comic book character, and not just a female version of Scorpion). Amy Pascal put forward Emilia Clarke and Elizabeth Olsen, but noted that it was too late to do anything about the latter due to her Avengers: Age of Ultron role.
Sean Penn, Denzel Washington, George Clooney, and Daniel Craig were also all discussed/rejected for roles, with Penn directly mentioned as a Doctor Octopus candidate. Woody Harrelson is too. Colin Firth is also suggested as The Vulture. Going back to Sandman, he'll apparently be the movie's comic relief, and so a list of names are reeled off, including Danny McBride, Jonah Hill, Chris O'Dowd, Michael Pena, Joel Edgerton, Jason Clarke, Sharlto Copley, and a number of others.
Amy Pascal "jokingly" suggests Jared Leto for Felicia Hardy and points out that Emily Blunt looked "anorexic" in a recent photo. Keri Russell might be too "Keri Russell" apparently, but she does like the thought of Ruth Wilson or Rose Byrne taking on the role of Scorpia. Idris Elba meanwhile is apparently "only good when he speaks British", and Pascal even suggests turning to Jackie Chan or "original bad guy Walter White" who she asks, "is he ever good in anything else".
Channing Tatum apparently wants to play Venom, but now that he's Gambit, that seems less likely. Doctor Octopus is described as the team's leader and needs to have quirks so as not to be boring as The Sinister Six's straight man. Avi Arad also suggested female Venom Ann Weiying for the female team spinoff, and Hannah Minghella brings up a suggestion made in jest by Emma Stone that she returns as Carnage (like in the Ultimate comics) as a "thought to consider for the future" because it "could be really cool/sexy/intense to see."

Marvel President Wanted to Burn Amazing Spider-Man 2 Script
TheMCUExchange has posted some screengrabs of even more leaked Sony Hack emails from two years ago in which Marvel President Alan Fine tears apart the divisive The Amazing Spider-Man 2. He makes a lot of really good points, but makes himself look somewhat foolish in a rambling paragraph which indicates that he's under the belief that these movies are/should be prequels to Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy. Forgive that though, and there's no denying that his harsh review of the sequel's script is spot on. Why repeat so much of what we've seen before? Why kill off Gwen Stacy so soon? Why does the villain need a convoluted origin story tied into Spider-Man?
The depressing thing here is that both Fine and Marvel's VP of Production Tom Cohen provided Sony Pictures with notes and they made absolutely no difference whatsoever. This was sent months after The Amazing Spider-Man earned $750 million compared to The Avengers' $1.5 billion, but Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, Alex Kurtzman, and Roberto Orci all clearly thought they knew better.
