'Shark Tank's' Kevin O'Leary to run for Conservative leadership in Canada

Will he make US pay for a wall?
Not the whole country, just Hollywood.

I know next to nothing about this guy. Does anyone have a source that describes his politics? A quick Googling gives me Twitter and Wiki, neither of which is very insightful. Thanks in advance.

Good for Canada.
Forget politics. I'd love for him and Jordan Peterson to just go around destroying the bratty, embarrassing university professors, bias crap media and all the beta snowflakes up there in debates about reality.
Peterson is great, and would get my vote, but politics would kill him. The guy is coming apart at the seams as is. But just as a speaking tour duo, yup, sounds like money in the bank.

Kevin O'Leary is a piece of shit.

Pros:
  • I see him cutting wasteful spending and running a stable, growing economy.
  • isn't a globalist puppet.

Americans have had actors as president that did a decent job so i have no problem with any candidate who doesnt have political experience but o'leary is a salseman. He wasnt that successful at business or his funds group. However he has great presence and thats what makes him good for tv. Any case i just want to vote C to get Justin out. I would take oleary over Justin anytime. He only cares about leaving a legacy like his father who was also a mediocre Prime Minister. The only lib who would have got my vote is Martin.

He did a sit-down interview that seemed to be the most detailed I've seen/heard.

This is prodominately an act. Oleary has lost quite a lot of money in various business ventures, but at least he has some idea about money.

We are not going to meet any deficit promises by the Liberals during their term. We are going to instead substantially increase it so in effect it doesnt matter who the next Prime Minister is but that significant cuts will be mandatory to even attempt some budget balance.

Excellent, thanks. It's in the que.
I haven't watched it yet either, aside from a very short clip yesterday that was also on the Rebel, with one of their commentators slamming him for not being a Social Conservative.

I think O'Leary may be onto something, though. He mentioned that he wants to capture the millennial demographic as well, and he may be able to do so by being more socially liberal. Whether that would alienate a large demographic of the Conservative base, I don't know.

I think I might become a member of the Conservative party so I can vote in this. I voted for JT, and have been regretting it.

You're not the only one. His "I'm not Harper" platform didn't translate into political savvy or ability. Unsurprisingly.

I liked Harper, but just recall feeling as though he was beginning to drift too far to the right, and that it was an appropriate time to shake up our government (this logic should really apply to my fellow residents of Ontario with our liberal govt; it does not). I had hoped JT would be a centrist, but he is not.

O'leary is a fucking G.
He is socially liberal and the son of either a lebanese or Syrian immigrant (cant remember) and is pro immigration. The only comparison that should b made to him and Trump are that they are both pro business. Trudeaus a fucking goof.

What "right" move made you rationalize voting for a socialist?

I know it's cliche but I wasn't huge on his attitude of harsher punishments for drug offenders, particularly when I'd hoped to see marijuana legalized (particularly for the business purpose of it). I also wasn't necessarily in favour of his furthering of operations in Afghanistan & against ISIS. I give credit to Harper for trying to put the gay marriage/abortion discussions to rest for the Conservatives in Canada. That was a big step forward, as it's an issue a lot of younger people just don't care about & drives people away from the party. A large part of my decision to vote liberal was that it was simply time to shake up our offices, I'm not terribly fond on having the same leadership for so long (particularly an issue in Ontario, Liberals have been in for some voters entire lives).

I'll also be the first to admit I don't follow our own Canadian politics closely enough outside of election seasons, though, so I'm not the greatest to get into deep discussion.

I do not really like Kevin O'Leary's smug attitude, but I would vote for him just to get that spoiled brat Justin Trudeau and his token liberal cabinet out of government.

Any chance you saw O'Leary on Celebrity Jeopardy last year? I'm almost certain he had a few glasses of wine before the show and he was giddy and goofy. His "smugness" seems like it's something invented strictly for the camera... there's a reason tons of people want to work with him.

I don't know shit about Canadian politics, but the country is facing the same issues that the UK has been with their ultra-liberal policies and leadership. It's no wonder that conservatives are going to start toppling these pansies.

Canadians, what do you think about this? Would you support this dude or are you happy with your current leader?
I think he might to really well. I see alot of support for him on social media and people are very unhappy with carbon tax and cap and trade. People want to focus on the economy first and environment second.

he was leading the in the PC polls before even announcing his candidacy, so this should be interesting . However, our primaries are way different and very few PC members that i have talked to, including myself are keen on him (polls did take into account PC members -- who are the only ones who are allowed to vote in the party leadership vote, which is one total vote, not province by province.)

Him not speaking french is a major black mark against him -- hes really going to need that in place but if he does win the federal election, hes got a few years to learn.

Maxime Bernier is my pick, unless Chong can show he has some backbone.
Bernier is also my preferred candidate.

I have not watched much of Kevin O'Leary on TV, but I do believe his tough guy persona is exaggerated for television purposes. I know a lot of people in Alberta are willing to support him mainly because he criticizes Trudeau and a lot of Albertans, including myself, desperately want to see Trudeau and the liberals out of power. It was a sad day when Trudeau was elected :(.
