Saddest song ever

A little past suppertime
I'm still out on the porch step sitting on my behind,
Waiting for you.

Wondering if everything is alright.
Momma said, "Come in boy, don't waste your time." I said, "I've got time.
Well, he'll be here soon."

Five years old and talking to myself.
Where were you? Where'd you go?
Daddy, can't you tell?

I'm not trying to fake it
And I ain't the one to blame.
There's no one home
In my house of pain.
I didn't write these pages
And my script's been rearranged.
No, there's no one home
In my house of pain

Wasn't I worth the time?
A boy needs a daddy like a dance to mime and all the time
I looked up to you.

I paced my room a million times.
And all I ever got was on big line, the same old lie.
How could you?

Well, I was eighteen and still talking to myself.
Where were you? Where'd you go?
Daddy can't you tell?

I'm not trying to fake it
And I ain't the one to blame.
There's no one home
In my house of pain
I didn't write these pages
And my script's been rearranged.
No, there's no one home
In my house of pain

More emotional than straight up sad. It'll get ya either way

Haven't checked the whole topic, but Moby - Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad is really sad. The video obviously took inspiration from The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.

Most of middle era Swans, for example:

Acid Bath have a couple of sad songs in their short, but quality discography. Unfortunately the scumbags that hold the rights to their stuff take Acid Bath songs all the time off youtube. Here's a demo that's online at the moment:

Acid Bath vocalist Dax Riggs' solo stuff is highly recommended speaking of melancholic songs.

Katatonia have lots of sad songs, lately they don't sound much depressing, but their earlier stuff is:

That's what comes to my mind at the moment...

Been listening to these lately

Perhaps not the saddest song ever written but the singer's delivery is emotional.

Don't Look Back in Anger always gets me. Probably because a couple years ago my dog had a seizure in my arms shortly after I was listening to this song, and she passed away two days later :(

I can only think of games off the top of my head.

Holes in the Floor of Heaven by Steve Wariner:

And Keep Me in Your Heart by Warren Zevon:

They both get me, especially knowing Warren wrote that for his wife after he found out he had terminal cancer. It was the last song on his last album.

A song about addiction. John Frusciante on guitar.
