Q for the veteran fans, has there been a bigger fight than Conor vs Khabib?

There were lots. Liddell vs Wand, Silva vs Belford, Machida vs Rua II, all had that BIG fight feel
Wand Vs Chuck were past their prime
(Not even a main event)

Silva Vs Belfort probably is the Biggest fight in Brazil history
But, nothing that special elsewhere

Machida Vs Rua 2 really ?
1st one was boring and a bad decision

Don't remember being REALLY hyped for this one
(Was a huge Machida fan Back then btw)

Anderson vs Chael 2 had me hyped for months, fight week I was dreaming about it every night

I have a feeling UFC 229 will bomb compared past events.

Every time Conor fights it's the biggest fight of all time. Always bigger than his last.

So Conor/Khabib will definitely be the biggest fight that there's ever been. Even bigger than MayMac.

I was more hyped for Conor's fights with Mendes, Aldo and Eddie and Diaz II but I'm defintely excited to see this.

Viewers and dollars wise it probably is. To the people on here I doubt it's the most anticipated.

I've been watching mma since like 2006-2007 but UFC only since like 2013.

And considering all the build up with Conor going completely bananas with the dolly and the bus, and his fame and notoriety and Khabibs record and just brutal determination and style.

I'm wondering if there ever was something close to this in the past, that at the time felt on similar level as the anticipation is now for this one.

Plenty. I remember Chuck vs Tito 2 was pretty Huge as well as Randy Vs Chuck 3. GSP vs Pen 2 was really big. The Casino I went too was sold out and packed to the gills.

Also, Timmeh vs Randy was a huge huge fight. I remember when Randy did this....

Pen vs Pulver, GSP vs Hughes 2 come to mind as well.

Chael vs Anderson 2, and quite frankly GSP vs Bisping had more hype as well, there are many more. This fight isn’t really that well promoted imo

Fedor vs Crocop was huge at the time..

Aldo vs Conor was bigger imo..... Aldo was a legitimate champion

There have been too many equally or more important fights than this one. But saying "Biggest fight at the moment!" just doesn't carry the same cache ;)

Depends on your definition of "big". St.Pierre vs Penn II was highly, highly anticipated. As was Liddell vs Couture III

People forget how big DC vs Jones 1 was. Both were undefeated, neither had lost a round in their career except Jones vs Gus, both from super camps, both were high level well rounded fighters...and then the fight that happened at the press conference and then the hot mic argument...that was a really big fight.

Others that people mentioned that were close to or just as big as Khabib vs Conor were:
-Chuck vs Rampage
-Chuck vs Couture 3
-Rampage vs Evans (had a LOT of hype and rivalry)
-Evans vs Jones (had a big build up and lots of drama as well because of the Jackson/Wink situation)
-GSP vs Hughes 2
-Brock vs Couture

Some of these may have even felt bigger than Conor Khabib because casuals knew both fighters, while most casuals have no idea who Khabib is, and because some of these fighters were coming off impressive winning streaks or were undefeated, and Conor just got finished in a boxing match and got finished in an mma fight the year prior to that.

By the way, I watched UFC 1 live on ppv when I was like 11 years old lol. I saw a commercial for it and convinced my parents to let me order it.

Honorable Mention -

This was a fight between two of the Greatest fighters that ever lived.

DC had already won the Strike Force HW GP(Fedor/Werdum/AA/Bigfoot/Kharnitov/Overeem/Barnett), and had not lost a single round in his career, and Jon is the best fighter that ever lived.

Too early to tell

I don't think so but there's still time for this to get massive

Aldo vs McGregor was probably on a similar level.

The reality is Conor is a much bigger star than everyone you mentioned. Coming back after a layoff. Against an undefeated champion. They may not be doing a world tour but Conor himself makes this a much bigger fight than most you list.

Honestly, I don’t feel like this is the biggest fight at all, I guess with Conor’s fame it should be but I just don’t feel that vibe or intrigue at all.

Maybe it’s because I feel it will be a blowout, I mean Conor got finished in 2 of his last 4 fights, arguably lost 3 of them and that mistique is long gone. I see it as a straight forward striker vs grappler matchup, with the outcome being same as the Barboza Fight, outside a punchers chance which I guess everyone has.

Plus we’re talking LW’s here, and like it or not they just matter much less than the bigger weight classes.

To me the biggest fight is still Fedor vs the guy in your avatar.
