Official Women's Division Discussion #23

No, I am mocking the UFC for being stupid and starting the shit-show known as 145 instead of 125.

And Honchak is done.
Ok, Then we are in full agreement. I don't think Barb is completely done. I think she is just done fighting for the little money she gets from Invicta. I think she was waiting for the UFC to open 125 but the dumb asses never did it.

At this point in Invicta is going to feed into Bellator's flyweight and featherweight division and the UFC's strawweight and bantamweight division. I wouldn't doubt Megan Anderson will be in Bellator by the end of the year.

One thing people have to understand is Invicta being feeder isn't necessarily a bad thing they create a fanbase for fighters who didn't have a fanbase before and put on pretty exciting fights.

Invicta can be a cross between a feeder, the WEC and the SEG era UFCs.

last night at the fight2night 2 card in Brazil we had 2 straw weight bouts:

Marina Rodriguez (now 7-0) defeated Samara Marituba (now 10-3) by decision - she dominated the standup, Samara looked frustrated she couldnt get the fight to the ground and got battered on the standup.

Virna Jandiroba (now 11-0) defeated Ericka Almeida (now 8-3) by decision - Virna got takedowns on all rounds and showed a very very tight top control game, ericka caught Virna on an armbar in the end of round 1 but Virna did the same to her in the end of Round 2, both saved by the bell if i remember correctly.

Both virna and marina looked ready for the big leagues

I don't have an issue with Invicta losing talent to larger organizations per say.

What I'm not fond of is the blatant favoritism they show for certain athletes by giving them consistent, multiple fights a year while frustrated fighters such as Alejandra Lara never got a fight despite signing with them twice and sat in limbo for nearly 2 years. I'm happy she's with Bellator since she's going to be one of the new additions to get pushed in the spotlight.

Gee, you noticed it too?

Yes, sarcasm. Assume I said something shitty about fight promoters and insert it here.

Barb went on record wanting to shop around to Bellator and the UFC. Problem is she hasn't fought in three years.

I wouldn't say cursed as much as there is no depth in the 145 division. 125 is deep - so deep all three organizations can have a full roster with some to spare. With half of 145 in Bellator and half in Invicta who either Cyborg had already demolished and aren't ready to, very few options. Just think the UFC sees Cyborg as a money grab versus a long term investment at 125 where stars like Andrea Lee and Roxanne Modafferi would bring in different fans.

Tell me it isn't so!

Hearing someone posted a list of best amateur female fighters. Happens I have started a personal database of amateurs since I keep getting promoters asking for fighters. Here are the tops in USA/Canada. Don't have enough winning records/more than three fights at 145 and 105 to give you a list for them. Fighters with 3 or more fights with winning records. Have a few that lost recently I didn't add.

I miss Nakamoto. I remember when the plan was for her to win the Invicta 135lb belt, beat Cyborg in a Muay Thai fight then fight Ronda in the UFC. It didn't sound like a crazy plan, she was mowing down fools. Hell, she was embarrassing Lauren Murphy until her knee blew out.

Fuck ACL injuries all to hell.

Here's a good Miriam Nakamoto story, in case you haven't seen it before:

So for those that don't know, in Thailand (in general) it's considered bad luck for the Male fighters for women to go over the top ropes before they fight, so they go under the bottom ropes, Thai women generally aren't allowed to train in the same ring as their Male Counterparts, again these are generalizations not all camps or stadiums run this exact way but historically women don't go over the top and still don't to this day.

This of course is the primary reason why female Thai fighters in Thailand are sub par on an international stage, less respect, less training, forced to train after hours and treated more like "After thoughts and servants" than warriors... So when you set up your go fund me account to go over to Thailand to beat up some school girls who usually don't want to be there anyway I won't be contributing nor will I applaud your efforts. I can count on one hand the amount of Thai women who are taken seriously or treated with respect by their male counterparts ... It's cultural, it's triton, it's ritual... No it's BullS**T!!!

I'll tell you a story... in 2009 I took Miriam Nakamoto to Thailand to be part of the US Muaythai Team fighting at the IFMA World Championships in Bangkok.

Before we started the competition we took the team to the Old Lumpinee Stadium and everyone had a great time soaking in the fights the tradition etc. Then Miriam noticed the sign at the bottom of the canvas... "No Women in The Ring" ... It was like a punch in the gut to the Best Female Fighter in the World.

:/

So a few days later at the World Championships Miriam fights and before she fights... I push down the top rope and tell her to jump... She jumps so high over the top rope and lands with the loudest Crash you could imagine.. "I'm here... I'm about to kick your a**... "No one will save you or stop me".

One of the Thai officials comes up to me while she's doing her Wai Kru and tells me "Girls no go over top ... Girls go under ropes... Under the ropes" ... I turned to him and simply said "oh don't worry Miriam's not a "Girl" she's a F**king Killer" and then I turned around and never looked back.

She crushed her opponent flying knees, elbows, boxing that sounded like thunder cracking... I don't think they has seen a female fighter so dynamic, aggressive or explosive.

Miriam would go on to fight 3 more times... She would fight in the Finals at the Kings Cup in front of 300,000+ adoring Thai fans... She would go over the top rope EVERY fight and when she landed she did so with so much aggression the Gods knew she was there... after she won Gold Medal... she was so loved and respected by the Thais they awarded her Best Female Fighter in the Tournament.. And to this day...The one and only time and American (Male or Female) has ever won that title at the World Championships.

I love Thailand, Muaythai and have NOTHING but respect for the Thai people... And that means ALL of them not just the men... Just because something is "tradition" doesn't make it right... So yeah love me, hate me ... Whatever gets you going... I can tell you one thing... ALL of my female fighters will ALWAYS go #OverTheRopes no matter where they fight and that has always and will always include Thailand.

Alesha Zappitella got her win over Stephanie Alba turned into a DQ loss after testing positive for marijuana. I think that this is completely ridiculous. I get that rules are rules and I would understand if they were going to give her a No Contest, but to flat out give her a loss on her record is completely ridiculous. In major MMA events in the US, fighters like Nick Diaz, Jessica Eye, and Curtis Blaydes have tested positive for marijuana and got a No Contest on their record because of it. To give a fighter a loss is going too far in my opinion. If UFC/PRIDE isn't handing out losses on these matters, then this commission shouldn't either. I still consider this a win even if the record books will not. In my opinion, it's time for the commissions stop punishing fighters for smoking a plant that is legal to smoke medically in most states, and recreationally in a handful.

Pascua Yaqui Athletic Commission just dropped the hammer on a trio of fighters who competed at the Combate 13 mixed martial arts (MMA) event, which took place at Casino del Sol last week (Thurs., April 20, 2017) in Tucson, Arizona.

Chief among them was rising atomweight prospect Alesha Zappitella, who popped for marijuana following her 105-pound showdown opposite Stephanie Alba. “Half Pint” drew a 60-day suspension for the infraction and saw her unanimous-decision win changed to a disqualification loss.

Ouch.

“We are professionals and you sign a contract to not just make weight, but also to not take certain banned substances for competition,” Alba told MMAmania.com. “When you do that, you are not holding up your end of the contract. It is very unprofessional. Not sure if that affected her decision to hug me instead of fight me, but it’s still messed up and makes her and her camp look bad.”

Alba will have her defeat overturned to a no decision.

Elsewhere on the card, Randy Steinke and Chad Dietmeyer were also benched for positive drug tests — confirmed with “B” samples nearly a week later — with the former taking two months off and the latter being sat indefinitely.

Not for the weed, but rather for the meltdown after his first-round submission loss to Benny Madrid, which drew penalties for both unsportsmanlike conduct and threatening commission personnel.

Yikes.

It should be noted that Snoop Dogg held a rap concert in the same venue the night before, so no telling how much second-hand smoke permeated the premises (that’s why I always stick to the gin and juice).

Could you give a short summary about what she said about Cyborgs social media manipulation? I hate watching these types of interviews and plus its way too long.
I'll hook it up here in a bit!

Whilst I agree that the stance on marijuana is ridiculous, it was still completely reckless on Alesha's part to put herself in that position.

@Rizz

At about when it says 57 minutes left: (talking about the Brian Stann thing)

Megan says he was saying exactly what she was saying/heard.

"I think Brian did it in a very respectful manor. Brian isn't one to trash talk & genuinely has a passion for the sport & wants to help the fighters, that is his job. I think for Cris to come back & say that he's nationalist or against her or whatever it was...I think that's just a very uneducated response made out of emotion & not exactly knowing the whole facts. There may have been a translation mishap there, she didn't quite understand what he was saying. Cause how I read it was, he was trying to get information from her to build her brand the way that she wanted it to be portrayed, you know? He has never said one bad thing about her. He understands that there's a lot of controversial stuff around her but he's not gonna play into that. He wants to know exactly how she trains, all that kinda stuff & I think he was trying to be very respectful & you know, i've heard from a lot of people that she's hard to work with.

Brian's employers are also her employers. It's like every day it's something different with Cris whether she wants to fight me, she wants to fight Germaine or if the UFC can't find her a fight let me out of my contract... Every day it's something different. I don't think it's her it's her manager, Ray who is I think her boyfriend.

I think that they go about things the wrong way sometimes & it's more negative for them. The UFC might not want to work with them anymore, who knows...if they keep being difficult. "

In regards to Cyborg vs GDR (what I was mainly referring to...already typed out the rest though, heh):

"There may not have ever been any interaction for that fight... Cris puts up photos, like this match is gonna happen when nothing's ever been said. Like she put up one with me & her...i've never been approached ever by either Invicta or the UFC for that fight. So you can't say i'm running when i've never ever been offered it. I think that she uses social media to pressure fighters into fighting her when really it's not up to her it's up to the organization you work for. Currently we work for separate organizations, so it's the UFC that need to come to us cause we haven't heard anything from them so there's not much we can do if they don't approach us you know?

I don't think she's not interested in the fight, she's definitely interested in the fight. It's not about anyone running but her trying to say that i'm running when i've never been offered that fight. That's the thing, she pressures people & she manipulates people through social media. There's so much people don't understand that goes on behind the scenes that people just jump to conclusions & I think a lot of her fans are very passionate about supporting her & I 100% support that...but sometimes they can go a little bit far. "
