Pro wrestling is just a stage show though. Drama makes sense there because it’s theatre, not an actual sport. You can’t compare the two .Yes, but you need a mixture of both to spice things up.
Believe it or not even pro-wrestling has feuds where both guys are respectful and no drama every once in a while too.
But TS isn't asking the average casual. The OP is asking Sherdogers, a very large proportion of whom are die hards.all evidence suggests that viewership would go back to pre-TUF numbers.
the fighting isn't enough for most people.
don't be fooled by the vast # of people who say they don't care about the drama. it took a reality show to get most people interested in the sport. those of us who loved the sport pre-tuf couldn't support it. especially once the JMMA fad crashed and burned.
most people today who claim they would watch it anyway would fade away with the drama and shit talking.
and i'm not being insulting. most people who watch most sports aren't hard core fans. most people just want to be entertained. dingers are more exciting than 83mph junk pitching that yields 7 shitty infield singles and 1 run across 7 innings.
fact: a million people didn't buy Evans v Rampage because it was the best fight that year.
agree. I notice the more a fan is into drama and shit talk, the less they usually know about actual fighting. The guy who can tell you every detail of a fighters trash talk twitter war... but doesn’t know the difference between a rear naked choke and a guillotineI watch MMA to watch fighting.
Drama is for the casuals.
I do not watch the pre-fight Hype at all. I do not watch the weigh ins or the open workouts. The only hypeI see is the commercial kindthat happens during the event, And usually I will just put it on mute and do something else until I actually see the Fighters walk out. And yes sometimes I mute the commentary, depending on who’s doing it. I like the skill and art of fighting. That’s what thrills me. All the rest is just noise.
This.Shit talking and drama is mainly for the casuals.
Genuine bad blood is fine.. and adds excitement.. but fabricated drama has no place in MMA.
1. I work in the sport, so I have met many of these peopleRiiiight....so what were you doing in these threads?
http://forums.sherdog.com/posts/142291283/ <--Khabib hype thread where you make jokes about parking lot fights with dollies and hookers. Why are you in this thread and why do you know about Conor's shenanigans, if you don't follow pre-fight hype?
http://forums.sherdog.com/posts/142293447/ <--here you're in a thread discussing Ariel's move to ESPN. Ariel Helwani is 100% drama reporter, he has zero knowledge in the technical side of fighting. Why do you follow him?
http://forums.sherdog.com/posts/142291983/ <--here you're talking about Cerrone's unfriendly out-of-cage behavior.
http://forums.sherdog.com/posts/142291953/ <--here you call him a redneck douche. I thought all that out-of-cage stuff is noise to you? Why would you know or care how he acts outside of cages? Why do you call him a douche?
http://forums.sherdog.com/posts/142283845/ <--here you talk about being a huge fan of a fighter's personality and following/rooting for them because of that, despite his actual fighting career never taking off. I thought you didn't care about non-fighting stuff? So much for that being noise!
http://forums.sherdog.com/posts/142315343/ <--and here you admit to watching A MANAGER on MMA Hour. That is the single biggest drama hype show in the entire industry. ZERO technical breakdown, 100% drama. On top of that you were clearly triggered by his behavior and called him an asshat.
http://forums.sherdog.com/posts/142352253/ <--oooh what are you doing crapping on a fighter in a TMZ thread about his street fights? I thought you don't care about that stuff?
http://forums.sherdog.com/posts/142349577/ <--and now you're shitting on his parental skills? That's their private life and none of your business.
http://forums.sherdog.com/posts/142350829/ <--Jones is an amazing fighter but his behavior makes him a garbage human? I thought you don't follow out-of-cage drama? So why so dramatic about Jones? All that stuff is just noise to you, no?
http://forums.sherdog.com/posts/142350357/ <--you watch TUF coach drama? Why? You don't even watch Koscheck's fights outside of GSP, and yet you follow his TUF drama?? Why don't you skip to the fights? The detail you're describing...clearly you sat through all that shit, why?
I can keep going, but there's no point. You love drama as much as the next person, stop lying.
1. I work in the sport, so I have met many of these people
2. I watch the news , even if I avoid the hype stuff filters through.
3. Shitty personalities piss me off. In sports and in real life. A comment on that has nothing to do with hype.
Nice try though. How much time did you spend making that reply! That’s actually impressive
i disagree with this statement. the man-drama-queen runs strong through this crowd. But TS isn't asking the average casual. The OP is asking Sherdogers, a very large proportion of whom are die hards.
Yeah, and it's usually the same 5 or 10 teenagers making and posting in them. Sherdog has 1000's of members.i disagree with this statement. the man-drama-queen runs strong through this crowd.
fact is, there are more threads about fighter talk than about fighting.
Yeah ok. Actually that’s the only episode of Mma hour I saw . I like watching post fight analysis and that manager just happened to be on there. I was like “who the fuck is this guy?”. I’m a human being obviously I talk about people but it when it comes to the actual sport I don’t need all the drama to be interested . But you have me all figured out apparently..Back pedaling much?
1. You working in the sport in no way explains why you watch TUF drama or Ariel's drama hour. Those have zero relevance to actual fighting. You were clearly lying. You follow drama in this sport like everyone else.
2. Hype IS news in MMA. There's never a clear separation between MMA news and MMA hype/promotion. If you follow MMA news, you follow MMA hype. Again, you were lying.
3. So you react to fighter personalities and behavior out of the cage. Which means you care about drama and personalities, instead of treating them like noise. Liar.
Nice try though. Took me all of 5 minutes to figure you out.
Yeah ok. Actually that’s the only episode of Mma hour I saw .
I like watching post fight analysis and that manager just happened to be on there.
