I just did. It's not that bad. No where near a Jameson but give it time. Very easy to drink. Very smooth and soft.

The document you linked mentions grain whiskey - corn, wheat, barley. Whiskey is distilled beer anyhow. Flavors/smells like vanilla come from the barrels where the whiskey is aged.
