Zookeeper Gabe's Animal Thread V7.0

The elephants by far are the most dangerous, but overall luckily aren't aggressive. I work with our rattlesnakes and Komodo dragon which some people think are terrifying. But I was using a brush to scratch my dragon the other day. So she's not that scary, lol

As for getting into zookeeping, I've always loved animals and been taking care of animals since I was a kid. I got my B.S in psychology and focused on animal behavior, studied wolves in the wild in WI, the got an internship working with big cats in TX and haven't looked back. That was over 14 years ago

Any animals completely scare the hell out of you for one reason or another? Like you dread going near them due to unpredictability or any reason like that?

Just a friendly reminder that this goofy mother fucker exists:

That's a maned wolf, AKA stilts fox.

Let's give it a long-legged homie.

Do you build the enclosures as well or do you hire someone else to do it? If it is hired out, is there a company that specialize in zoo enclosures?

Some of our enclosures are built by our operations staff and we do finishing touches. Others are contracted out, there are firms that specialize in doing zoo exhibits but we tend not to use them do to $$$. This one was built by both a contractor and finished by our ops staff. We did the perching and plants, we do hire a local artist that does the murals.
