Hey Hun, as far as GTPs go they are assholes. As long as it's for display only they are fine, Mine at the zoo is 25 years old. If you can keep temps and humidity right they do well. Just don't plan on sitting and hangin out with it. Vision cages or the some of the other new cages out there are pretty nice.

They are even worse. But I like them more, the biggest thing with ETBs is feeding. You really had to pay attention to them going to the bathroom. If you feed them to many times they can get seriously constipated. Those teeth though.

Yup, I've been working with eastern timbers for 3.5 years now. We are getting copperheads in the fall, so nothing too crazy. But it's always something I've wanted to do
 
the guy i go to for my stuff ha done the venomous handling course,but doesn't stock anything. not sure id have the nerve to mess around with those.

He was so upset he left a little venom in his bucket. Lol

I haven't seen anything in the paper about it, at least not yet. I wouldn't be surprised if it's Good Ol' Boy Syndrome and the fucker has family connections. I live in eastern NC. Silencers are legal but you have to be part of a gun trust, have sheriff's written permission, and/or something else. Not sure about homemade ones.

I always thought it was a bich to get them, and even harder to get approval to biuld your own.

He looks super excited to be in that tube. Do you guys ever do anything with the venom? i mean i know you dont scrape the buckets but do you ever milk them for anything?

Do you work with certain snakes or whatevers on the agenda that day?
 
The gun trust & sheriff's permission aren't that easy to get. Well, the sheriff part of it can be easy depending on the sheriff. The gun trust thing is a lot of paperwork but a lot of gun shops will do that part of it for you so you'll buy their $1,000 silencer. I'm not positive on the legality of homemade suppressors, but when I say "homemade suppressor" in this case it was obvious why he waited for a storm to do his work and try to cover the sound with thunder.

No there's tons of rules and regs for venom collection and we only have a few snakes. We only have have two girls on exhibit but we have a varying number of snakes that come in and leave. They are part of our conservation program and some need to be treated or have transmitters planted or removed. I have taken care of as few as 3 or as many as 30.

Are most snakes pretty similiar? Or are some species harder to work with. Ive heard stories of Mambas chasing people.

There's tons of differences even in individual species. Some of the rattlesnakes are super chill, others no matter what are constantly striking at you. Venom is smeared all over the glass.

Are the same speicies usually pretty similiar, like are rattlesnakes for the most part relaxed and gaboon more likely to be jerks... or is it one rattlesnake might be all cool and the other rattlesnake a big dick?

Have you ever worked with a Gaboon? (number one snake for the record)
Any kings?
Mambas?
How different is handling venomous vs non in terms of how they act?

Usually species are relatively similar, but we have had some seriously nasty timbers and lots of medium and chill ones. I've never worked with gaboons but they are easy despite their giant fangs. The do very little, basically big pretty venomous slugs.
The only Elapid I've ever handled was a coral snake in the jungle in Honduras.
 
Came across this and figured I might be in it for about 2 minutes, ended up being mesmerized for the full 7 by how much this guy gives zero F's.
