Zookeeper Gabe's Animal Thread V6.0

Yeah but what about the rat when it gets swallowed alive.
Well pythons rarely eat their prey alive, they are constrictors and basically squeeze prey items so tight that the heart can not pump. They don't kill by suffocation as commonly thought.
That being said, I never advocate feeding live prey for multiple reasons. I have a stubborn ball python that probably would have been a much better eater if I switched him to live but just kept at it and have him eating frozen thawed now.

No protein skimmer. I have a inTank media basket that runs filter floss, purigen, chemi-pure elite from top to bottom and do regular water changes. I've had success with Aiptasia-X before. Works really well.

Went to the LFS to pick up some Aiptasia-X. Dude there thinks it's some type of hyrdoid. Colonial maybe? Either way he said they should die with the X but the reason they are taking over is they are stinging my zoas. Manual removal was recommended as well. He said sometimes these things just kind of pop up and go away on their own but best thing to do would be to treat now. This morning it looks like they actually had stinging tentacles out with the lights out. With the light on they look brown and fuzzy. Here's pic with no light.

id try the aiptaisia X first.
If you go manual mode, be careful around those zoos. Poly toxin is wicked. Gloves and eye protection is a must. Dust mask wouldn't be a bad idea either.
Do you run your middle chamber with chaeto? I'm assuming you're using a cube.

Just got the brown Ram home and he clean jumped 2 ring lock and barbed wire fence and took off, I didn't even have the fucker for 2 hours

He wasn't happy, the alpaca and another Ram give him shit and he bailed, I've never seen a sheep jump fences like that before
What are his chances of surviving where you are? I'm assuming there are wolves there?

I'm in Australia so no wolves here or any real predators, the biggest worry is it getting run over. I'm fairly positve it will keep jumping fences untill it finds another flock

Sucks you lost the new ram, guess he was super motivated to split.

Goodbye 'image 2 of 4'.
How much did that little display of athleticism cost you? Any chance of getting him back?

needs "fly, you fools"

This sequence in the show was heartbreaking for me. Nature red in tooth and claw, I know, but this poor sod fought for god knows how long until it didn't even have enough energy to shuffle forward a foot or two in order to escape death.

But the thought of Gandalf seal made me laugh.

Its never the animal's fault, but a mistake on the handler's part.
good luck on the injury though, and here's something to make you feel better.

How did the mouse eat the snake ? Did some one hurt the snake and drop the mouse in ? That's depraved.

$175 for the ram, $70 in closed trailor hire, 3 hour around trip. Now I'm hoping it doesn't get hit bye a car as I will be up for big $$$$

they can sometimes kill their predators. one of the reasons why responsible owners feed them frozen mice/rats.

When you catch wild snakes (anything that eats adult sized mice or larger) they almost always have scars from battles. Now in the wild one or the other will get away but in a cage if the snake isn't hungry or is intimidated it will just tuck it's head and the rodent will go on the offensive.

Well used to walk my friends dog in a local park at night. There were skunks there and the pup would run around playing with the skunk. They recognized each other and would continue play over the course of a few days.
