Zookeeper Gabe’s Animal Thread Vol 9.0

@Zookeeper Gabe

have you heard any studies done about chimps that go to war and kill each other possibly having been influenced by watching humans enact war? i know that in some parts of the world chimps have been exposed to so much killing from humans that they have adapted and become nocturnal to avoid it. i have been wondering if they might have been traumatized and imprinted on human violence in a way that influenced them towards more violence.

i would be very interested to see an analysis of waring chimp tribe locations on the planet and human warfare.
I haven’t, I’m pretty sure chimps have always been a violent species. It would also be difficult since that part of the world is subject to almost constant unrest.

What are some overlooked animals that you guys like? I like coots (and moorhens). Interesting shape and the black and white go well together. It's also very nifty that they're both good swimmers and walkers unlike ducks, geese etc....and they can fly as well. They also make for good bird watching since they move around a lot quite fastly. Their chicks have a pretty unique too.

Coots are awesome, I love their feet.

one I’m experiencing right now at my house is chipping sparrows. They are tiny and ridiculously cute while feeding their juveniles currently.
