Zookeeper Gabe’s Animal Thread Vol 9.0

I've never seen a rotty with a tail in Wales so cropping is DEFINITELY popular here.
I did some more looking into this because I may have made an incorrect statement saying it's not illegal. Infact it is.

https://www.bva.co.uk/take-action/our-policies/tail-docking-in-dogs/

What's the issue?
Tail docking is the removal of a dog’s tail in part or whole for cosmetic reasons or to prevent possible injury.

It is an outdated practice that involves cutting or crushing muscle, nerves, and bone without anaesthetic in puppies under 5 days old. Evidence indicates that it inflicts significant pain on puppies and deprives dogs of an important form of canine expression in future life. In addition, poorly performed docking can cause chronic pain.

Tail docking is considered to be a mutilation under UK law. The practice is illegal in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, however, there are some exemptions, such as removal of the tail by a vet for medical reasons or for certain breeds of working dogs.

By law, owners are not allowed to show dogs docked in dog shows where the public pay to enter, unless they are demonstrating working ability.

In 2017, Scotland reversed a decade-old ban on tail docking for some breeds of puppy if there is sufficient evidence that they will become working dog, despite concerns raised by veterinary and animal welfare organisations.

What's our view?
Tail docking should be banned as a procedure for all breeds of dogs, unless it is carried out by a veterinary surgeon for medical reasons (eg injury).

Puppies suffer unnecessary pain as a result of tail docking and are deprived of a vital form of canine expression in later life. Research published in Vet Record found that approximately 500 dogs would need to be docked in order to prevent a single tail injury.

We continue to call for a complete ban on tail docking of puppies for non-therapeutic reasons across the UK.

They look like good buds!

You by any chance don’t have another pic do you?
No at the time I was like no biggie so unfortunately that’s the only one I have.

Currently trying to stop these 5 fatties from breaking into my trash at night. At first moth balls were a good stinky alternative. Now like 1 month later they don’t seem to gives shit.B70E1D57-6784-4B0B-9D13-C8D1060C6CBB.jpeg

The reason I asked was the patch I can see almost looks like the pattern of a rat snake.

Don’t want to insult your id’ing of snake species. Lots of people think they are seeing a cottonmouth when looking at a lot of different species and lots of people think they see a cottonmouth up here in NE (no where near their native range). good luck with the raccoons

Yeah I’m no snake expert but I’ve dealt with rat snakes before. That onet kind of resembles a Great Plains rat snake. But I live behind a huge creek and see them swimming all the time there. My Dog was bit by one last year his head swelled like a balloon.

The Mystery of This Adorable 'Bear Dog' Has Been Solved

This cute creature of fluff has been ID'd as a Pomeranian-mix named Bounce.

The first great Internet mystery of 2016 has been solved. This photo of an absolutely adorable, brown ball of fluff is indeed of a dog -- not a bear.

The dog is actually a female Pomeranian-mix named Bounce,...

Horn ... took a photo of her and texted it to his friends, joking, "Somebody brought this bear into doggie day care."

One of his friends, Lanier Basenberg, posted the photo to Reddit and Imgur with the same text as a caption. The post took off, and hundreds of users got into a debate over whether Bounce was indeed a bear or a dog. The photo of the smiley "bear dog" on Imgur had nearly 1 million views as of Tuesday afternoon.

"Bear with me -- I think he might be a woof," one user, carson9910, wrote.

Horn explained that Bounce is actually owned by Elizabeth Maguyon, a 19-year-old chemical and bio-molecular engineering student at the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Maguyon told ABC News today that she and her family were on vacation in Tennessee when they checked Bounce into doggie daycare.

I remembered a family friend who kept dogs took a new dober pup to the vet to get its tail docked. It was decades ago but she was a lifelong dog lover and I wondered back then why she would want to do it. I think it was because it was still the fashionable thing to do.
Anyway I remembered she talked about the experience at the vet and said the puppy was 'crying' after its tail got chopped off.
