chimpanzees are so strong and intimidating. here is an upset hairless chimp. they look like bodybuilders on steroids. very powerful animals.

They terrify me, chimps. One of the animals that scare me the most, they're bastards.

I set up a 10g betta tank about a month ago and things are starting to fill out. My java fern keeps looking like shit, not sure what's going on with it.

@Cpt Migraine I know you don't give out aquarium advice over the net but I think we're both beyond the beginner or intermediate fish keeping so I'm hoping I can get your help.

As I posted above, I'm having troubles with my java fern. The leaves keep getting holes in them and then they rot away. My dwarf sagittaria is throwing runners, the crypt wendtii is growing as well as the red version, and my anubias nana is growing like crazy.
At first I thought there might not be enough nutrients in the water but the anubias is growing fine. Then I thought maybe my test kit was old, so I bought a new API Master Freshwater testing kit but I got the same results. Then I thought maybe it was getting too much light, so I moved the light fixture to the front and no change.

My parameters are
Nitrate : 26 ppm
Nitrite : 0
Ammonia : 0
pH: 7.1 stable
kH: 4.5
gH: 9
TDS: 225
Temperature : 77F

Dosing is Aquarium Co-Op's line of fertilizers. Easy green, Easy Carbon, and Easy Iron. I don't use any carbon or other chemical filtration, just sponges.

Have you got any ideas? Java fern is one of the easiest plants yet I can't get it prosper.

@jefferz are their any fish or snails that would be eating it? The holes sound like it’s being eaten

I should have put my livestock in the post above. The livestock is a female betta, a couple neocaridina shrimp, and ramshorn snails. None of those will eat live plants. I use a hydrogen peroxide dip on all new plants so I didn't get a hitch hiker.

Nah, i love talking aquariums but i just don't have the patience to give advice to beginners anymore..

While i specialize in bigger tanks 500g+ where cost of lighting often makes plants exclusive to public displays or balling nerds i also dabble in exotic plants and terrariums..

That said the slightest thing might be off.. that stupidly precise parameter (level of flux capacitor in your water) might be the difference between enjoying the hobby and only seeing that almost dying plant..

I'd just switch it to something that actually likes your tank if the more advanced plants thrive..

Maybe not the scientific answer you were looking for but from experience it's easier to work with your tank than against it..

Thanks for the help. What's really confusing me is when java fern gets stressed, it starts producing babies but I'm not getting any.
I'll probably end up getting rid of the java fern. It's too bad because I really like the look of that plant and nothing else really looks like that except bolbitos but they're not harvested from sustainable sources.

Are aquarium plants over there sold as emersed growth? Almost all the plants sold in Murica are grown emersed so when you get them and put them in your tank, all the leaves die off.

For beginners I usually just send people to Aquarium Co-Ops site, it's a good source for new people. He is a business owner trying to sell you something so keep that in mind, but almost everything I've seen from them I've agreed with. Everything they sell can be purchased elsewhere and they don't sell snake oil type stuff.

Are Ziss products big over there? The brand is starting to get popular over there.

Have you seen the USB air pumps yet? I have a couple and they're working great. Dead silent and will run off of a 10,000 mAh power bank for 30+ hours.
