It’s almost time for pip! Eggs are going to hatch in the next day or 2(if fertile hopefully) . Mom and dad did an epic job so far through the snow storms and wind . From here on out should be warmer weather. Lots of people waiting for the new eaglets.

@Zookeeper Gabe, is this true?

Yeah, there are a few species of kite that do it and maybe a falcon?

A blind man walks into a bar. He picks his dog up by the tail and swings him around a few times while the dog barks. He them puts him down. The bartender says, “hey! What the heck are you doing, man!” The blind man replies, “oh, just looking around.”

@Zookeeper Gabe - Leopard gecko vs African Fat Tailed for a pet? :)

I have a Leo but am looking to get an AFT potentially. I hear they can be a bit more easy going but also a bit more fearful.

Oh and if you have a minute....your thoughts on housing 2 female leos together? Some say it's OK, others say no. I used to think I needed 2 to keep company but it's my undertsanding lizards don't need "company" the way we do. They like being alone b/c there is no competition. I read when lizards "snuggle" they are acutally fighting for position or asserting dominance for the best locations.

I keep looking for a mini doodle of sorts...mini goldendoodle or minilabradoodle. I wonder where they rank on popularity. I'm guessing more and more popular as they become more available. Would love a lab mix but have kids with slight allergies.

Honestly I like fat tails more, leopards are great but I feel like AFTs are way underrated. You can successfully cohabitate two females but it takes a very large enclosure with multiple hides and isn’t really worth it IMO. they aren’t a social species and usually one ends up being the dominant one.

Thanks man! I really want a AFT now as they look super cute and similar environment/setup as my leo (slightly cooler and slightly more humid I believe).

But when shopping aorund leopards are so easy to find and just pick up. And read that about 2 females too. Just isn't worth the hassle or potential danger to each other.

My next reptile will be an AFT as I'm not too interested in crested or gargoyle. My 12 year old son wants a hog nosed snake...or potentially corn snake.

Thanks again!

If you don’t have snake experience I recommend corn snakes, hoggies can be a bit finicky.
I’m getting another chahoua in a few weeks, or whenever it warms up enough to ship it.

Good info! I've been studying up on them a bit and didn't realize hoggies are venomous, though apparently they rarely, if ever, bite. My son likes their face and his science teacher has one that the kids can hold. I'll try to steer him towards a corn snake as they seemed to be much more readily available and cheaper. Though I'm not sure he can handle feeding live rodents to it so it'll have to be dead pinkies and stuff like that.

I was reading up on those Chahoua and they sound amazing!! Looks like a cute little alligator! I want one!! :)

I've been looking at a Rankins Dragon if I could find one! Like mini beardie! Or I've read about a painted/clown agama. I like the idea of a friendly beardie that's awake during the day but I like the smaller size...less food, less poop, more unique.

Frozen thawed rodents is the way to go for all snakes imo if they will take them. Although it takes a lot to get bit by a hognose I’ve seen a few bad reactions to them.

Some pretty awful shit happened here in RI, a local parrot rescue had a 4 alarm fire early yesterday morning and lots of animals perished. Over 80 birds have died as far as I know, I have multiple close friends that work and volunteer there. It’s hard to process losing that many animals at once and what they are going through.
If you can donate any to help out it’s greatly appreciated.
