Has sound:
My tank is finally starting to fill out.
I'm still not sure if I want to get more Dwarf Sag (front left side) to fill out the open area in the front right. Or maybe try a different plant down there, or just leave it blank.

Nice.. are you gonna go full scape?
I'll go full scape in time but right now i'm trying to get a Blue Velvet neocardinia shrimp colony established. It's going to stay a low tech, low light tank. No Co2 but I'm doing the DIY root tabs (Osmocote) and dosing Easy Green fertilizer.
Eventually I'm going to be ripping out the anacharis (back right) and replace it with some something else. I'm thinking octopus plants, a bigger anubias, or alternanthera. It's only a 10g (37L) so I have to be careful with my choices. But for now the anacharis is providing cover for the shrimp babies and has a ton of surface area for the bacteria they eat so it's more important at this point.
Awesome! I like the neocardinia a lot..
What kind of lights are you running?
I've kept the cherries before but it's a first time for a different color. The only other thing in there right now is pink ramshorns. Eventually I'm going to add some rabbit snails.
I'm using a 20" Finnex Sting Ray and I love it. 7k whites, 660nm reds, and 460nm blues. If you don't have red led's I'd consider getting some, they really make fish pop. I don't think the Sting Ray for larger tanks like a 55g wouldn't be great for plants but on a short 10g it's enough for low light tanks.
My tap water is crappy so I'm having to use RO/DI water and SaltyShrimp Mineral GH/KH+ to remineralize my water. It sets the ph/GH/KH just right for the shrimp. The little white chunks are limestone that help keep my ph solid at 7.0 for 2 weeks and provide calcium to the snails. Water changes are 2 gallons every 2 weeks.
Between the light stocking and lots of plants there wouldn't be much of a biolfilm so every other day I add GlasGarten Bacter AE. It's specific bacteria that creates a biofilm for the newly hatched shrimp eat. It might just be a placebo but I feel it helped out survival of the babies since I started using it.
For feeding I'm doing cucumbers, peas, green beans, and 2 different types shrimp food.
Awesome!
Yeah, i bought sand containing limestone and have some crushed up snail shells in the sump to keep ph in check.. shame on the water.. i'm fortunate enough to have tap water good enough to just fill up.. i'm changing around 300g/week.. no aging or declore or anything.. it's almost cheating..
I've been running led for the last five years atleast.. i have a maxspect razor and some ledzeal spotlights.. will never use anything else again!
Keep the thread updated with the shrimps!
I wish I could use my water out of the tap, but shrimp are bit more touchy. If I was doing a fish tank I wouldn't need to do the DI water stage or the remineralizing.
It isn't really a big deal though. I make 15g of the RO/DI water at a time, 10g goes to remineralizing and 5g is used for top offs. That lasts me 10 weeks.
I'm really thinking about setting up a 10g Least Killifish tank. They're my favorite fish.
They stay small at around an inch, they're are a live bearer, and very tolerant of water parameters. Instead of dropping all their babies at one time like a guppy they drop one baby a day. They like 65-75 degree weather so they don't need a heater. And since they're native to the USA you can still get wild caught fish and you can breed out your own line. They're found all over in ditches, ponds, etc and are used for mosquito control so there's more than enough numbers to allow for collection.
I still have one of the first gen EcoTech Radeons but it would be overkill. LED lights have been amazing for the hobby. No more having to change bulbs, less power consumption and heat, and no more algae from old bulbs. Being able to add more colors has been great as well.
Killies are amazing! A lot of them are very similar to big fish in mind set.. especially snake heads..
I've never kept them myself but i have a couple of friends who had racks filled with fish and eggs.. some are spectacular!
Unfortunately i'm pretty much standing still right now..
I need a house to expand the hobby.. i have a 500g and i can't fit more in the appartment.. saving for a house takes some time..
