Unfortunately snakeheads are illegal to own in the US.
A Cross River puffer is my holy grail. Rarely for sale and super expensive, last one I seen for sale was $3500.

Yeah.. i used to be on monsterfishkeepers a lot back in the days so i know the american frustration over asian arowanas and snakeheads haha..

That's a really nice fish!

Some buy stuff for their car, some buy another car, a bigger tv or collect stamps.. if you really want something you should get it.. :)

I haven't been to that website in years.
I doubt you could find one for sale. Even if you do, odds are it's going to be a Fahaka. They look very similar when young.
My LFS closed and the closest decent store is 150+ miles away so my fish keeping days are probably over.

Same here.. long time ago.. they lost me with an update some years ago..

That's a shame man.. there are however a lot of people who are serious as fuck and will ship with doa guarantee if you change your mind..

I live in the middle of nowhere so most places won't honor the DOA guarantee even with overnight shipping. Liveaquaria won't even ship to me.
I have been thinking of setting up a 10g cherry shrimp and snail tank, they'll both survive a couple days in the mail.

My first job was in a pet store and I remember my boss would only get in snakeheads as special orders (back in 97-98) because he was worried about what people would do as they got bigger.

We would get in some cool shit once in a while, if I remember correctly we got in an arowana with our feeders. The only thing we could think was it had jumped out and ended up in with the feeder delivery.

Do it man.. go for a little scape or something! :D

I honestly think these guys would honor the guarantee though.. they've sent datnioides pulcher to sweden.. sweden must be worse than "middle of nowhere"..

Good boss.. i used to have a really big marulioides snakehead.. was like a dog.. lost her in a separation and is now at the kolmården zoo with a 20' anaconda.. :D

Most sp snakeheads don't grow that big though.. many stays south of 10".. unfortunately often subtropical so they need a cooler period.. i keep a 20yo lucius now.. very chill fish..

Nice surprise.. i got an arowana 10 years ago.. was about to be a feeder as it lost an eye (no sale) to an aligator gar.. it had very nice colors so i asked to buy it.. stayed with me for 10 years and 34" until i gave it to a friend with a 2000g..

That must have been a long time ago because datnioides pulcher is damn near extinct iirc and I don't recall anyone captive breeding them. I can't see Sweden allowing an import of an endangered species.
They'll sell me the fish, but won't honor the live arrival guarantee. They got bought out by Petco a couple of years ago and their policies have changed massively.

I wish more pet stores would follow that logic. There's a lot of aquarium fish that get sold that never should, like the redtail catfish or the common pleco.

Now they are breeding pulchers.. there are pictures of batches of fry floating around.. only 3500 a pop.. :S this was last year.. no one has officially said they are breeding because of supply/demand but they are beeing bred..

They are allowed in sweden.. only endangered in thailand.. they exist in rivers that thailand doesn't claim.. :D veterinary check at the airport and everything is ok..

I can promise you there is a vendor that will honor the doa.. :)

Edit* i'm not advocating trade with endangered sp etc.. i'm just saying they are seriously being bred..

Is it just one company breeding them? Either way, it's great to see more and more fish being captive bred.
$3500 isn't that bad tbh for the first couple generations, look at the Lightning Maroon clown fish. They were going for $5k a couple of years ago and now you can buy an ORA bred one for $70.

Don't know man.. i lost track in holland.. i'm not in the market for one as i'm downsizing but i can agree.. they were like 4500-10 000 when the endangered hype was in its' peak.. even nice looking D. Microlesis was getting more expensive as a side effect..

The trends are real man.. people always find a way to capitalize.. if it helps the animal it's always a plus..

Interesting how we shaped the world.. be pretty, tasty or very useful and you will survive..

That's a burrfish, a close relative of the puffer.
I've owned quite a few different species over the years and most puffers will exhibit the behavior you talked about. I have had a couple asshole puffers, but I've had more clownfish attack my hand than puffers. Hawaiian pink spotted and Papuan toby's usually have white stripes/spots but when you show them attention they'll turn their stripes/spots blue.
That would be totally adorbs to have them change there colors when shown attention. That was the last aquarium I had, and tbh, it wasn't mine it was my roomates, but other than clean it he never seemed to give a shit about it. Herbie and I were tight, though.

The Wolverine, like the Honey Badger, key top success is not simply the 'I don't give a f*ck toughness' but the aspect that enables that which is there near imperviousness to serious damage or fatal injuries.

Most top predators are very good at killing but very poor at sustaining damaging and recovering. A leg or other injury often ends their lives.

Trying to deliver a fatal injury to a Wolverine or Honey Badger means the attacker has likely taken some serous damage themselves to deliver it.

Most predators are not looking to fight to the death. They are good killers but do not want a fight. Wolverines and Honey Badgers almost seem to relish the fight.

Thus why the comic book character was so aptly named.

(edit. I know i am probably not saying anything that anyone does not already know, lol)
