Horror comedy is a genre staple. Fuck do you mean?
Correct which is a separate category to Horror. Unless you think Shaun of the Dead should be in the same category as Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

What's with so many people talking about how funny it was? Last time I checked horror movies ain't supposed to be funny. Anyone laugh while watching the texas chain saw massacre? This sounds stupid. Don't people even know what a horror movie is anymore? Too much tik tok.

Hasnt seen the movie, still gonna jump on the internet and tell everone else they're wrong

Misleading marketing claimed that this was based on a true story, but it's not. Haven't seen it, but that's enough to turn me off from doing so.

Based on the trailer and everyone, including from here, who saw the movie.

NOPE!NOPE!NOPE!NOPE!

7/10 for me, well made, enjoyable and somewhat different but just missed the mark for me, too silly, like Longlegs. The aunt was essentially a female clone of Longlegs himself, including the occultish behaviour.

Saw it today

Thought it was pretty damn good. Although the chick with the 2000 Justin Timberlake Ramen Noodle blonde hair annoyed me. Bye Bye Bye!

Josh Brolin really carried the movie and the kid who played Alex did an awesome job.

Nice touch or horror and comedy especially at the end

I thought Barbarian was “meh” and didn’t get the hype. THIS movie was worth the hype. Very original

9/10

Pretty good I give it 7.5 out of 10.

M Night Shaylaman / Jordan Peele vibes with similar crazy bitch from Drag Me To Hell thrown in.

Not quite as good as I expected though.

I didn't like the Timberlake woman either and could have surely cast someone better.

The crazy old bitch was good though.

From Zach Cregger, the wholly original mind behind Barbarian (2022), comes a new horror/thriller: Weapons. When all but one child from the same class mysteriously vanish on the same night at exactly the same time, a community is left questioning who or what is behind their disappearance. The film stars Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, Alden Ehrenreich, Austin Abrams, Cary Christopher, with Benedict Wong, and Amy Madigan. In theaters August 8.

Weapons! Americans love weapons! No wonder it’s doing so well

I watched Barbarian after reading this thread and seeing Weapons. Started ok but got sillier and sillier though. Weapons is worth a watch.

Good movie. Originalish idea and overall production... it wasn't scary, but there was tension and it held my attention.

8/10... I don't think people will be very disappointed and it's worth a watch.

Hearing good things about this.

Horror continues to be the only genre of film that doesn't seem to be a complete shithole in 2025. Still going strong. Well, and indie arthouse drama, it will always be strong, but it suffers greatly from the disappearance of almost all the A-list prestige project efforts.

Sci-Fi right now makes me think of the classic line from the Rime of the Ancient Mariner: "Water, water, everywhere, and not a drop to drink."

i have not seen any marketing implying this was based on a true story. There is a voice over in the trailer of a young child recapping an old story of what happened in the towns past where she says "this is a true story", but that was clearly just a narrative approach in setting up the movie. It would require a major reach to interpret that as implying this movie is based on a true story.
