Movies Your top 5 movies all time!

I actually like the Professional better than “Leon”, or whatever they want to call the longer version.

I almost never like “Director’s Cuts” more than their theatrical versions. Director’s Cuts, to me, almost always prove why editors are so important.

Yeah I'm trying to think of an extended cut that I definitely prefer...there aren't many.

There are isolated scenes that I would have liked added...Commodus at the archer execution in Gladiator, the sentry guns in Aliens...but generally not if it means everything else in the extended cut.

With the extra scenes in the The Terminator, Terminator 2, Highlander...every single one of them belonged in special features and not the real movie.

With something like Apocalypse Now the extra scenes grind the movie to a dead halt.

In the case of Leon I suspect really it comes down to the US producers not wanting the "romance" directly addressed but honestly I end up feeling that the US cut is creepier because it doesnt where as the longer cut at least makes it clearer its just her.

Aliens really the main extra thing I dislike is the intro that both gives away too much and IMHO just looks a bit cheap, most of the other stuff I like and I tthink the Sentry guns espeically add a bit more action to keep the tension up whilst not showing too much.

Apoc Now I am actually starting to like the recent "inbetween" Final Cut personally, taking out the playmate stuff which I never really though worked but leaving in some of the french platation stuff and making it a bit dreamier. I think that works pretty well with the film personally, the whole thing I think just ends up feeling like going back in time from the war to the plantation to Kutz living like a Khmer god king.

Miller's Crossing
Casino
The Big Lebowski
The Unforgiven
The Matrix

I'm still hoping for a Millers Crossing UHD release, given how good the Godfather films ended up looking on UHD I suspect it could be great.

The Princess Bride
Se7en
Pulp Fiction
No Country For Old Men
The Godfather...
...The Departed honorable mention or tied

The opening Hadley's Hope stuff in Aliens is terrible. James Cameron pretty much always makes the right decisions about what to cut...sometimes the acting makes the decision easy for him.

The Director’s Cut for Tombstone was abominable, but the most egregious recut I’ve ever seen was what Coppola did to the Outsiders with his “complete novel” cut. What an absolute travesty.

One strange thing is Mac McDonald playing the guy in charge of Hadleys Hope plays an almost identical character as Captain Hollister in Red Dwarf a couple of years latter to the degree you'd think the makers of the latter must have seen the former BUT the directors cut of the film that includes his scenes didnt come out to what 1991?

Yeah that scene with Rooker and Biehn is pretty rough...even the cactus looks fake.
