Your first live PPV Event

What was roughly the time frame of your first live PPV or TV event

  • 1993 UFC 1

  • 1997 Pride 1

  • 2005 TUF 1 on spike

  • I'm a salty post TUF ultra noob

  • I'm so old I watched Gracies roll in the dirt of Brazil

  • I'm so old I watched the Japanese teach the Brazilians to roll in the dirt.

  • Post Pride 1 but pre-TUF

Wow, my head is spinning this morning. My lady usually has wed, and thurs off. We got completely shitfaced last night. I bought a 26 of Southern Comfort, and there's only a couple ozs left. We bought hash at the weed store last night. My first hash in about 25 years, I bet. Plus loads of beer.

Anyway... I started watching somewhere around 210. After 205 but before 217 which were about a year apart. I don't know the exact number or remember the ME or anything. The first big fight I definitely remember was 217. That was a great card. So, I'm pretty new in regards to time. But, with Covid and the fight pass, I've seen every numbered event by now. And I've seen every event live for at least 2 years now.

I hope that's what the thread was about. The poll choices didn't make much sense to me right now, so I didn't vote.

Great AV.

Great song and great album.

Damn i didn't think there would be so many older guys on this forum. I only watched one fight but mine was UFC fight night 24

I have never paid for a UFC PPV event but I did attend UFC 38.
Started training 6 months later.

Everything I watched after that was buying an event DVD and that meant every event of both Pride and UFC.

I didnt pay it much mind when I was younger

started slightly before Ken Shamrock vs Tito Ortiz

everyone here has been a fan for 20 years. It happens every time this thread comes up.

I was renting UFC VHS tapes when I was 12-13. Actually I wasn’t allowed to because they were rated mature, had to get my Dad to rent them for me.

Voted TUF1, but kinda lying. I live in Sweden so rarely watch live events. But the TUF-era was when I got into MMA big time (Before that I used just to watch K1 on EuroSports) and watched full events on video a few days after they were live - so think that counts for the purpose of the poll. I think maybe the first time I actually stayed up til 4AM to watch a live event was Gus vs Jones.

Seen UFC 1 on my aunt's cheater box (back when cable tv boxes could be hacked to get all channels) I was around 13 or 14 at the time.

Ufc 4 in Tulsa. Only ufc event I ever been too. I was high and drunk and thought it was a tuff man contest.

I’m the ultimate casual, Aldo vs Mcgregor. Do I get any bonus points for cheering for Aldo? Been hooked ever since.

I rented the first 10 or so VHS UFC's in the 90's when I was a teenager, but my local video stores stopped carrying them and with all of the negative press the UFC was getting I just figured they forced to go under. I wasn't until I played the UFC game on the Dreamcast in 2001 that I realized the UFC was still a thing.

I would pick up King of the Cage DVD's and catch Pride events on replay via hacked (Gold Card) satellite dish in the early 2000's, but it wasn't until after TUF that I started Renting PPV's as my roomates and I would host UFC parties on our 55'' projection tv when the UFC boomed after TUF. I was 24 years old.

So I guess the first live PPV I purchased was UFC 52, but the first time I watched it live was the first TUF finale, which was headlined by Shamrock vs Franklin. I guess this makes me half old school and half TUF Noob, but I voted TUF 1 on Spike, because that's the first one I saw live.

Are you sure about that? UFC’s 2, 3, and 4 were all released on VHS before UFC 1. Unless you were a tape trader this would have been impossible.
I had UFC 1 on vhs, although it was in 1997 I watched it, it had been purchased long before that, but bought before the others being released (in UK).

You may be right, any tape was rented from Blockbuster. Might have just seen them all out of order. At some point an uncle had a black box, I thought we saw one of the events live.

I voted for the TUF 1 finale, because that's what kind of got me more into the sport.

I watched the UFC 1 VHS video before then, but didn't really get into it. I was pretty young at the time and it was difficult to appreciate Royce Gracie winning by advanced laying on people.

You must have had a bootleg then because UFC 1 wasn't released on VHS until 1998.
After I posted it, I imagined it well would have been.
The insert was quite poorly printed on the cover but the tape was pure black. I imagine a legit one would have had print on the casette too.
Plus, it had missing bout(s) I think that my now UFC1&2 dvd does not have
