What was roughly the time frame of your first live PPV or TV event

  • 1993 UFC 1

  • 1997 Pride 1

  • 2005 TUF 1 on spike

  • I'm a salty post TUF ultra noob

  • I'm so old I watched Gracies roll in the dirt of Brazil

  • I'm so old I watched the Japanese teach the Brazilians to roll in the dirt.

UFC 105 for me. I missed a good chunk of the glory days, but I experienced enough of them to know they are long gone.

Wow, my head is spinning this morning. My lady usually has wed, and thurs off. We got completely shitfaced last night. I bought a 26 of Southern Comfort, and there's only a couple ozs left. We bought hash at the weed store last night. My first hash in about 25 years, I bet. Plus loads of beer.

Anyway... I started watching somewhere around 210. After 205 but before 217 which were about a year apart. I don't know the exact number or remember the ME or anything. The first big fight I definitely remember was 217. That was a great card. So, I'm pretty new in regards to time. But, with Covid and the fight pass, I've seen every numbered event by now. And I've seen every event live for at least 2 years now.

I hope that's what the thread was about. The poll choices didn't make much sense to me right now, so I didn't vote.

Is this some kind of 3rd world math? Having to be born 13 years old to have watched UFC 1?

Of course not. I just figured the odds of someone watching it below that age, paying attention, and having any real remembrances was slim.

everyone here has been a fan for 20 years. It happens every time this thread comes up.

The first live one I saw was Shamrock vs Kimo UFC 48 I believe

I don’t think anyone in here started with Pride 1. That’s harder to believe than UFC 1

The first live one I saw was Shamrock vs Kimo lol

Correct. You need to be close to my age to have purposely seen UFC 1. In fairness I cannot remember if I watched UFC 1 live on PPV or an illegal recording. Likely an illegal recording as they were floating around back in the day.

I bought UFC 168 as my first PPV ever. I invited my family to join me. It was really awesome overall, but did not end on a high note.........

The one where Shamrock laid on top of Gracie for a half hour. As a teenager I was thinking we were going to see something along the lines of Bloodsport. I didn't get back into MMA for like another 8 years or so lol.

IIRC it was Ultimate Ultimate 97, The Don, Tank, Shammy, a worked bout, Frye nearly lost in the final, but came back to sub Tank, great first event...

UFC 50 was the first card I actually sat down and watched from start to finish when I moved out to the west coast cuz the cards started earlier. Ive pretty much watched every card live since then.

I saw bits of the earlier cards here and there live but it was when I lived on the east coast so they usually came on later and I was doing other things. Also ppv was more of a pain in the ass to deal with in those times (you had to call on the phone) so the people who ordered them werent as common but someone with a descrambler would record it and we would watch it the next day (it was also nicer to he able to ff through the bullshit parts of the cards.)

Ive also been to one live event in person.
It was the first Silva vs Sonnen card out here in Oakland.

I watched the second season of TUF and the first PPV I saw live was UFC 73. To date the only event I've attended in person was UFC 78

UFC 1 but we didn't buy the PPV, my friends older brother had one of those black boxes where you get ppv stuff so we watched it. It was super interesting because wrestling (real) was my life at the time and did Judo, some other traditional martial arts and boxed.

Im some where between pride 1 and tuf 1...i remember catching all japanese audio late night (1 am to 2am) broadcasts of pride on some random channel when i was like 11 or 12( my brother is older so he would of been like 14 i use to stay up with him) that would of been 2001 ish time...then found UFC and use to watch the ppv with my dad and brother before TUF 1 i remember being excited for the first season and waiting for it to come on Spike TV...started training japanese jiujitsu around 2005 ..keep watching...went back to see vale tudo days and on... pretty much seen abit of the all the MMA Vale tudo eras...into now.. in the part of Canada it wasnt available on regular tv for a long time..hence the random.latw night all japanese channel

Edit:so my first UFC ppv would of been after UFC 40( yes i missed tito vs shamrock live) but before UFC 45 hughes vs trigg i just cant remember the exact card...

EdIt Edit: So after some research probably the first card i got my dad to buy was UFC 43 MELTDOWN...chuck vs randy 1 ...IIRC.. we watched alot after that together..good times me and my dad and brother...
