Inspired by @shadow_priest_x love for "so called" crap movies I was thinking what were my favourite movies that were both critically panned and shat on by much of joe public alike.
Here's mine...
1. THE KEEP - 1983
5.8/10·IMDb
36%·Rotten Tomatoes
5/5·Empire
14%·Metacritic
one of Michael Mann's early offerings which he has always distanced himself from and was not at all well recieved. It does however have a devoted cult following which includes myself among its numbers. It has always had a strange attraction to me and I have watched it many times over the years on crap lazer disc rips and I love it every single time. How I long for a blu ray directors cut.
2. DOOM - 2005
5.2/10·IMDb
19%·Rotten Tomatoes
1/4·Roger Ebert
34%·Metacritic
Derided by critics and fanboys alike I never got the hate for this one and was pissed it never got a sequel. It's got Karl Urban and The Rock, big guns, cool looking monsters and lots of well shot action and gore. Good mindless fun.
3. GHOST RIDER - 2007
5.2/10·IMDb
26%·Rotten Tomatoes
35%·Metacritic
Another Cage movie that gets little love but personally I loved it. Hokey as hell but Cage's set chewing performance was a joy to behold and the action was solid.
4. THE WARRIOR'S WAY - 2010
6.3/10·IMDb
29%·Rotten Tomatoes
45%·Metacritic
Not so bad a score on imdb but it had a lot of haters on the now defunct message boards and was poorly recieved by critics. A damn travesty imo as it's a fucking great movie.. beautifuly shot and looked just like a graphic novel come to life on screen. Oddly enough the Korean dude who directed it had never directed anything before nor did he direct anything thereafter and I thought he'd go on to achieve more greatness.
5. F4 RISE OF THE SILVER SURFER - 2007
5.6/10·IMDb
37%·Rotten Tomatoes
45%·Metacritic
Not a great movie but again good fun. I mainly liked this so much cause it had a pretty decent rendition of my fav superhero of all time Mr Norrin Rad. Saw it at the cinema, it looked awesome on the big screen, had some great set pieces, most notably the chase between Human Torch and SS and the cgi was really good for its time.
Couple other honourable mentions go to Soldier with Kurt Russell and also Pandorum.
So whatcha got? Try and stick to the most panned movies possible not ones that you think are just a tad underrated.
