Your favorite Wand moment?

every moment when he was murdering people. he was the perfect fighter to be on top when i was a teenager. you didn't need to know shit about fighting to know somebody was getting their ass beat watching a Wand fight.

he never stopped, and people will say "because he was roided" no, it's because of his mentality. there's lots of roided guys who will get tired, who will quit, but Wand was an animal. he will get after you no matter what. it's rare, the only current champion who has that kind of mentality is DDP.

he was the epitome of a prize fighter. even at the top he would always fight for the finish.

So many legendary moments but one that is very underrated was the Jardine KO.

Wand really needed that win bad at the time. Jardine had just beaten Chuck and a lot of people were counting out Wand as he had just lost to Cro Cop, Hendo and then Chuck.

I can't be the only one that jumped off the couch and was going crazy and screaming when Wand dropped Jardine and held him down with the RC.

For me it was when he dropped Bisping at UFC 110, since I was in attendance. The whole crowd went crazy the atmosphere was unbelievable. You can see Wand just barely pulling back a soccer kick after his PRIDE instincts were taking effect.

Wand vs Mezger is an underrated fight.

His 2 fights Pride with Rampage and 1st Hendo fight are all time greats as is the Stann and Bisping fights

I loved this fight but Wand definitely head butted him haha.

When Pride was still going i just watched fights after the fact and usually knew who won, so they weren't as exciting.

So my vote goes for Wanderlei vs. Stann. He'd been fighting a bit more conservatively prior to that fight because he was old/shop worn, but you could see him say fuck it and start throwing bombs.

I agree with this one, the pullback on the instinctive soccer kick is just one of a kind. I think I remember Aldo doing it once too

Wanderlei vs Bisping was indeed a really fun fight
edit: oof, looks like my gifs failed horribly

Silva has had a lot of entertaining bouts in the UFC even if sadly he was out of his prime when he came back there after his PRIDE run
Even his first UFC run gave us this gem => Ogkjt5_jpg_medium
Probably in the top 10 most posted gif in the early Sherdog forum days

Miy favorite moment was right before yours, t'was 2009, his first fight against Rich "Ace" Franklin... another fight that Wand doesn't get credit for because there's "loss" next to it, but it doesn't matter cuz good ol' SHERDAWG scored the fight for him <3

Good ol' Sherdog <3
"Silva waves his hands into the airfor the crowd and attacks with both hands"
This is THE moment of the fight I recall first when thinking about that one, crowd when nuts when Wand threw his hands up.
Even way past his prime the crowd was still in love with him

For me it was one of those fights that are so damn close, I'm happy calling them draws.

The second Franklin fight is another banger, 5 rounds this time, and that one I agree that Rich won the decision even if he got very close to getting finished

It wasn't the first time I had seen Wand in real life
(other times were when he was cornering teammates at previous events, signing autographs, stuff like that)
but it was the first time I had the chance of watching him fight live.

During his walkout the entire audience was stomping the ground until the arena shaked while Darude-Sandstorm was blaring and I broke my voice screaming "SILVAAAAAA" at random moments of the fights like you'd hear in most of his PRIDE fights...

Great entertainer, even if newer fans tend to mock him and American fans have taken Chael Sonnen's side during their strange rivalry, I don't think anyone who's watched a Wand fight live has regretted their decision to buy a ticket.

Long story short, that fight is my favorite Wanderlei fight
The Cung Le finish was also memorable, it was right after the catastrophic 27s loss to Chris Leben, and Cung Le was a decent favorite supposed to arrive from Strikeforce with his champ belt on finish poor Wanderlei's chin...
Then came out the coolest knees barrage since the second Rampage fight \o/

WAR WAND!! CHUTE BOXE 4EVA

I was at the bar and some FUCK......said "Wand is done", "retire".....

That Cung fight was 1) exciting as all Hel and 2) showed his resilience as a Champion.

I couldn't have been more proud of Chute Boxe that night.

The performance that Shogun cashed in on Hendo was Whoooooo!!

Love it and love to see that side of Wand.

My favorite moment is probably when he's hands-on-ropes stomping in a prone Yuki Kondo's skull while smiling and laughing merrily while the bell rings that it's over.

I present well in public because I've met all the peeps that have had big influences.

In my mind, tho, that was one where I was like "Holy fuk, dude".

I have the "Fiel" tattoo on my shoulder like he does.

If I meet him again (unlikely tbh), I'll still remember to tell him what an amazing impact he had on the sport.

Three pages and no fuck chuck video, you're slipping sherdog

Yes, you are and that's why you need to get right with these Chinese nuts.

He never said "Fuck Chuck" or "I want to fuck Chuck".

He said "I want to fuck....(catches mistsake and rubs his head) and if he wanna fuck who can deny them man? Let him fuck"))

"I want to fuck.....

I want to fight with Chuck!"

Imagine people calling Max or Gaethje BMFs. Lol. Prime wand would stomp them out 2 vs 1.

I loved that portion of the story in Kazuyuki Fujita "the Head".

"Will it explode when you expose its core? Is it filled with something that you can rape with an octopus? That's when it hit them: Wanderlei Silva."

Nice, for some reason even if I'm a tattoo enthusiast who usualy scrutinize every drop of ink that a fighter has,
(but the only MMA-related tattoo I have is a small tribute to Kazushi Sakuraba, the guy who got me into MMA and made me stay...
it's so cool to watch his grown son Taisei compete at amateur QUINTET grappling events (even if the 2 times I saw him there he seemed to have good Judo but not much else, and his results were 2 not-super-impressive draws) and now he won his first pro MMA bout against Shooto champion and longtime RIZIN vet Yusuke Yachi, couldn't be prouder <3
Taisei Saku Jr. Sakuraba

I mean it kinda sucked for poor ol' Yachi since he obviously got dropped because he tripped on his own ankle while trying to go full stop after launching forward à la Ken Shamrock vs Rich Franklin, but also caught a short counter at the same time, and the ref was a bit too early with the stoppage, buuuuut "it is what it is©"
Still, heartwarming moment in general, Saku Sr looks so happy, kinda wish Uncle Matsui-san was also in his corner but can't have it all
)

Got sidetracked, soze... ^^' I was going to say, even if I'm a tattoo nut I never looked up what the one his left shoulder said... I remember the live video he did of the one he did of his logo on his right shoulder, good stuff.

He's also on of the very, very few fighters I know of to have a tasteful head tattoo, and it's a tribal to boot! (Renato "Babalu" Sobral also has a mesmerizing tribal on his left arm, that he later got covered with another tribal that looks even better, ven if I'm a sucker for the OG).

Speaking of Babalu, back when PRIDE was still alive and Sobral was kicking ass in the UFC (but couldn't get past Chuck), he was one of the rare UFC dudes that would make me tune in, alongside GSP, Couture, Chuck and Arlovski.
I dreamt of a PRIDE vs UFC bout involving Wanderlei vs Babalu, because they had the meanest staredowns and I just had to know how an extended staredwn between the 2 would look like

I hate to side against you on your own turf/thread and all, but. But. :(
... it's been removed from this particular cut of the events, but in the original director's cut Wand indeed finished his tirade by shouting a big "FUCK CHUCK!" to redeem his "I want to fuck... I want to fight Chuck! FUCK CHUCK!©"

But it's indeed a commonly misquoted sentence, often presented as "I want to fuck Chuck", which is incorrect and !ban worthy imo <DisgustingHHH>

Love that I know exactly which story you're talking about without having to look anything up ^_^ classic.

I also never forgot the interview of Fujita before his OWGP fight against Wand in which he said that he didn't see any obvious weaknesses in Wanderlei, so he would have to rely on his "thick skull" to tire him out.

My favourite Wand moment is the entrance as well

Watching Pride FC live from Japan... What a time to be alive

Fedor, Wand, Shogun, Anderson Silva - true legends

Love rewatching his first two fights with Rampage. Easy to forget just how good some of these old guard guys really were in their prime. Although Wand did have a brawl heavy style he doesn’t get enough credit for how sharp his punch kick combinations were or how well he used his strikes to force openings. With rampage especially he knew once he started throwing combinations mixing punches and kicks his go-to would be to use a boxing shell to cover up, so you would see wand open up with combinations and flow effortlessly into a double collar before rampage could react. Really was special to watch.

My first MMA event that I watched was Pride Bushido 2, and I was shook. It took me almost two years to watch the next event. It was New Year’s Eve and we watched Shockwave with friends.
Both Wanderlei moments, that I will never forget.
