There are many more fighters who missed weight more often than Yoel Romero did but was allowed to stay at their weight classes.
Out of two times he missed weight, he came in at 180.2 pounds once, which would have been allowed for non title fights as well as title fights in other jurisdictions like Nevada, and GSP is a famous example AS A CHAMPION who was allowed to fight when he missed the cut off by a higher amount. One other time he missed weight, he had to come in on short notice as well, and it does play into a factor as well, you'd imagine.
Yoel is around 5'10 and he is around 200 pounds when he is walking around and it's not necessarily a big cut, if at all.
People mistakenly equate being a big man and being unable to cut weight well. Not everyone is able to cut weight equally. It would be just as illogical as people are just as good at fighting and they are not.
Yoel Romero has been cutting weight to his weight class for 20 + years without any issues, and to suggest that he is too big to fight in such weight class would be a hypocrisy.
Yoel Romero isn't necessarily a guy who is giant for his weight classes. He might not be the smallest middle weight, but he isn't necessarily the biggest either. Thing is that, as he ages, as much as he looks like a guy in his 20's, his body to shed that extra weight may have suffered through competing at a highest level for 20+ years, I am not certain but that's certainly a possibility.
He does look thick and muscular, but it's his build, and he looks even thicker just because he's a short guy for his weight class.
At the end of the day, Yoel Romero is not a big middleweight, and he does NOT cut a lot more weight that what a lot of middleweights out there are doing. He does look like a creation from some witch magic, but stop the witch hunt, put your torches and forks down, and let things play out as they should.
