Media Yoel Romero drops his GOAT list

Nobody else on anyone’s GOAT list has ever ducked someone so badly like Jon. GSP haters will crap on him for his run at MW but he vacated the belt in a few weeks.

This level of cowardice is truly once in a generation and as far as I’m concerned, puts him below other GOAT’s.

1. Fedor
2. Anderson
3. GSP
4. Mighty Mouse
5. Jones I guess
Replace your #1 with Hendo, who was Yoel 1.0 and beat Fedor despite being 6 years older and 20 pounds lighter.

Around here, it's cowardice to NOT call Fedor the GOAT. Putting him #1 is NPC behavior.

I can go along with Mike Perry (who barely missed the GOAT list) being black, as he's like 3% black or something. But GSP is as 100% pure white Canadian as they come.

First of all, he already defended the belt, which is more than GSP ever did.

Secondly, everyone complains about fighter pay, then the second the HW champ says “ya, I’ll unify the belt, just pay me”, people call him a duck.

Jones knows his worth, and knows how big the fight could be. If the UFC wants the fight, they can pay him.
He defended the belt against a cherry picked, retired 43 year old opponent who last fought and got violently KO’ed 3 years prior. It was akin to Bisping’s title defence against Henderson but worse IMO because at least Hendo wasn’t a retired firefighter.

If Jon fought any active top 5 HW like Pavlovich, Blaydes, Aspinall or Almeida (a few examples), it would be a legit defence but he hasn’t and he won’t. He got an exhibition fight and now that it’s time for a real one, he just makes excuses.

And I want fighters to get paid as much as the next guy but it’s awfully funny that twice now when there was dangerous HW’s, Jon priced himseld out of that (IMO on purpose) but had no problem fighting the ghost of Stipe or white belt Gane for less.

Negotiate the contracts you want but when you’re the champ and you refuse to fight the top contender let alone interim champ, traditionally you got stripped. It’s insane it’s even gotten this far and it’s even crazier Jon Jones fans defend the biggest ducking in MMA history. You can never tell me it’s fine that the champ refuses to fight. That’s not how championship belts work and it’s just pathetic to go there in the first place.

I know his price would come down a lot for someone like Derrick Lewis or Pereira.

He’s not refusing the fight, he’s wanting to get paid appropriately for his last fight on account of being the youngest champion in UFC history, UFC record holder for most title defenses and wins, current HW champion, and p4p #1 fighter in the world according to the UFC President himself.

Do you not see how, of all fighters, Jon Jones is the most accomplished and deserving of being paid “boxing money”?

Regardless, it doesn’t change that GSP is clearly the biggest duck in UFC history. He returned to fight a literal one-eyed man, the weakest champion in UFC history only behind the inaugural MW champion Dave Menne. Then he ran again, despite previously publicly stating he would defend the belt.

I dont believe it’s about money. I would if Jon didn’t make 10,000 different excuses and use money to avoid Francis but then to rigut Gane and Stipe. He’s very clearly scared to lose to Tom at the end of his career because he recognizes a true threat and the hardest fight of his career.

If he wants to take money fights or “legacy fights” as he calls them against lesser opponents, I have zero problem with it. He’s earned that and he’s earned some big paydays. My issue is that he’s held a division hostage for years while refusing his duties as champion. Tons of champs were stripped for much, much less.

I mean.. no shit it will be the hardest fight of his career.

He’s 37yo, fighting 40 lbs above his natural weight class, against a younger and bigger natural heavyweight. Jones knows that the UFC is trying to sacrifice him to build Aspinall’s brand. Obviously that’s part of the business, but of all fighters that deserve their due, it’s Jon Jones.

Jones is not holding the division hostage. No one is stopping Aspinall from defending his interim belt again. At this point, Aspinall is the one holding things up.

It’s like blaming Connor for Chandler not fighting. No, Chandler is the one making the foolish decision to wait. Why is he waiting? Because the potential pay day and exposure is worth it in his mind.

Same thing with Aspinall. Aspinall up until now, thought it was worth waiting for Jones. He’s sacrificing his career because he knows that Aspinall/Jones will net him more money and earn him more notoriety if he wins, than fighting 2 other guys in the meantime. That’s on him though, not Jones.

GSP vacated the belt right away. Jon continues to hold it so he can cosplay as a champion while refusing to let the division move on.
doesnt that still mean GSP ducked? He basically lied so he could get a title shot at MW. He clearly just wanted to fight Bisping because yknow why lol.

I'm just saying, GSP didn't really fight the baddest boys at MW. So if someone says Jones is a duck because of what he did at HW, GSP is not that different. GSP is just more likable and not holding the division up.

Jones lost to Santos and Reyes. Was very lucky to get the favorable decisions. Should have rematched both fighters like he did Gustafsson. And then beat them properly.

Jones avoided Ngannou. Though with GFL(if it becomes a thing), that fight could happen about 5 or 7 years down the road. It seems to be a 40+ MMA senior tour.
...Jones is doing everything possible to avoid Aspinall.

...But he is still top 5 fighter. Best strategist, best timing, best at avoiding damage, top notch athleticism.

Everyone with eyes and without lies in their heart would pick Jon Jones.

Ngannou didn't sign the contract, Jon did. Jone beat Santos and Reyes, facts. Reyes optics looked good chasing Jon round the cage but the strikes barely landed. Santos had career/life altering need injuries after fighting Jon, stop it. Jon will most likely fight and beat Aspinall then that won't be good enough for you guys. Imagine if basketball fans were this salty and tried to tear down Jordan constantly - they'd be laughed at by all.

Nice to see Anderson get some respect in GOAT lists. I flip back and forth between Jones and Silva for GOAT with my ranking. Surprised how far he fell just because he took fights late in his career. He still holds the record for wins in a row in UFC. In my opinion his aura was the highest, if anyone looked like a GOAT it's him.

And thats why THEY really mad. but thats a conversation for another time.
