While Yan is arguably the best in the division, people are allowing their hatred of O'Malley to color their judgment.

Obviously, Petr should be favored, but O'Malley is not some scrub either, and has some very obvious assets in the match up; he is superlatively coordinated, has a lot of range, height. He has very good striking, particularly from his back foot; throws jabs, hooks, feints, with admirable precision and speed. He has solid jitz as well.

Yes, Yan should have the wrestling advantage and be able to make it difficult for O'Malley to tag him, and he will be justifiably the strong favorite in the odds.

But this is not Wanderlei vs. Kanehara. O'Malley could surprise a lot of people.

I would really wait for an official announcement. This fight doesnt do much for Yann at all.

Good if it happens but I could understand Yann wanting someone higher ranked. Could also be a way of lowballing Yann into this fight or a complete smokescreen by O`Malley. Lets just wait. If it really happens it will be one sided.

MMA Fighting subsequently confirmed with a person with knowledge of the promotion’s plans that the fight has been verbally agreed upon, but contracts haven’t been issued.

Yan’s manager Daniel Rubenstein reiterated that stance while speaking on Wednesday’s edition of The MMA Hour, and that the fight is not 100 percent done as of yet.”

Won’t believe this until the UFC announces it. O’Malley saying it on his own means nothing yet — might just be trying to pressure Yan into taking the fight. Which he probably won’t, considering Yan is ranked #1 and O’Malley is #13.
