That's not true anymore and hasn't been for a while. Acting smug and acting with principles are 2 different things. That's the main reason it's so difficult for me to be a liberal.

What I'm saying is that you're saying that one side of the "should we treat transgendered people with respect" issue is based on feelings and the other side is not. First, you can't have positions on issues without feelings, but it seems to me "treat people with respect and give everyone equal rights regardless of their preferred style" is more rules-based than "some people should be shunned."

As for your last paragraph? It's clearly the "right" that's open to even talking about some issues. The unwillingness to broach topics is precisely why I'm not aligned with conservatives as much of that behavior stems from dogma rooted in religion. They've just bundled that mindset into politics.

Fine by me. I'm a liberal atheist. Also, apparently an "enlightened centrist" as the newly rolled out disparaging label goes.

The thing people want to dismiss is that there's value in both conservative and progressive values. Doing things because we've always done them a certain way is as bad as making changes without forethought. I was raised Roman Catholic and have a fundamental dislike for being judged for who I am, original sin, and dogma. Hence, liberal! Regardless of which way the political wind blows.

That response was to a different poster who clearly took an exception to me pointing out I'm not a conservative and how "some" people can't escape their teams orthodoxy. I would have addressed you directly if I was talking about you. Holy shit! Lol

I've been talking to you one on one in a polite manner. Why would you think that post was directed at you? Do you think I shy away from butting heads? Look at the last few shit storms I've been involved in since posting in the lounge for examples otherwise.
