I don’t think culinary school is the problem. In fact knowing the basics and learning how to run a kitchen might be extremely beneficial.

the problem seems to be that just graduating these programs aren’t enough. You really need to “intern” under other great chefs in great kitchens around the world to really learn the craft.

working under classically trained chefs in hotels and well established high end restaurants. Then after that you can really do your own thing.

some chefs spend a few years Traveling all over The world learning different cuisines. It’s very detailed work how much goes into making a world class chef. Not just a cook but a man/woman who can run a kitchen.

Gourmet Coleslaw

Here run this entire kitchen for $600 a week before Taxes. What a joke.

You can bartend and make close to that on one weekend night at a good place all in cash too.

I don't know what it is about the area, but restaurant owners around here tend to have zero restaurant experience and underpay anyone who doesn't have that fucking useless degree.

Yeah. One of the reasons why I don't miss working in that field anymore

The yelling is one of my favorite parts.

I've been itching to get back in a kitchen (my last kitchen job soured me, so I've been doing Uber for the last few years), but there is no way I'm taking on that much responsibility without being able to pay rent.

not gourmet but made properly. There are so many different types of slaw too.

why did you quote me before and when I went to the post it just said EDIT again. What did you want to tell me

Who cares

The restaurant business is ruined by idiots who have never spent two minutes working inside a restaurant buying a restaurant.

These rich assholes think it’s Easy when it’s literally the hardest thing they’ve ever tried to do. Run a successful restaurant. They have no clue and it’s so evident when you work for one of these types as well

imagine if we had a sherdog freestyle league

It wasn't the yelling that bothered me. It was long hours, shit pay, and guys constantly being cunts to each other to impress the chef

Aside from the shit pay, the worst owners are the ones who think they can cook/run the kitchen.

yeah with no experience. Because they know how to use the grill in their yard they think they know what the fuck they’re talking about

Shit pay and long hours are a given that you gotta suck up if it's what you want to do. But 10 bucks an hour is less than you would make at fucking Walmart.

My last boss insisted on calling herself the "head chef" and her entire menu came from random cookbooks from Barnes and Noble.

I love the restaurant business. Always have always will. It’s such an interesting business. People who have never worked in the business have no clue how hard it is and how much work it takes.

there are so many moving parts. It’s an unforgiving business as well.
