On the minimum wage I'm pretty sure Manchin and Sinema said they wouldn't vote for anything that was overruling the Parlementarian and they are against $15 in general. So I think that is more on them than Harris
Please see my post, above re the necessity to organize political will.

@BEER for the record I am not asserting I believe they will do all the things they should, rather that it's too early to tell if they will do none of them.

Never trust someone who went to school for food. I know crackheads who can make a better dinner than some culinary trained douchebags. Cooking comes from the soul

I don't mind if they've got restaurant experience. In fact, it could be a great experience if you've worked in restaurants long enough to know that's what you want to do as a career.

But a lot of kids go to culinary school and often get gifted head chef or kitchen manager jobs that they can't handle. A lot of places will just let you skip the line with no resume if you've got that shiny "degree". Can't tell you how many times I've had to save some dork when we had 15 tickets going.

Eh, it's a cycle. "Just give them time" turns to "wait until after the mid-terms" turns to "this is the most important election of our lifetime".

I'm not saying NOTHING will get done, but "give them time" is the step after "vote Biden and push him left".

I guess we'll just have to wait and see how much is lip service and how much is going to get done. Here's hoping they impress you.

I got a tip from my buddy that he recommended me after some culinary arts degree kid (with literally zero restaurant experience) turned down the job after being offered 18 dollars an hour.

They offered me 10. The words "fuck off" may or may not have escaped my lips.

$10? What was the job? Dishwashers around here make $15.

It was just a spit in the face. A culinary degree is useless without experience. I've worked next to some of those dorks. Know it all weenies who can't keep up with a lunch rush.
Do you yell "bitch, you can't burn!" at them?

It was a "head chef" position at a good local diner. They don't have a kitchen manager, which means I'd be doing the job of two people, which wouldn't be a problem. But I've been paid more as a line cook. It would be cool to have "head chef" on my resume (I've never held the title), but it's not worth it for 10 bucks an hour.

I did not, haha.

I don’t think culinary school is the problem. In fact knowing the basics and learning how to run a kitchen might be extremely beneficial.

the problem seems to be that just graduating these programs aren’t enough. You really need to “intern” under other great chefs in great kitchens around the world to really learn the craft.

working under classically trained chefs in hotels and well established high end restaurants. Then after that you can really do your own thing.

some chefs spend a few years Traveling all over The world learning different cuisines. It’s very detailed work how much goes into making a world class chef. Not just a cook but a man/woman who can run a kitchen.

I'm open to being pleasantly surprised, but so far "2000 dollar checks out the door immediately" has turned to "1400 maybe eventually" and we've managed to drop fresh bombs in Syria so uh...

Perhaps I'm not optimistic.

it’s literally a slap in the face lol. $10 an hour is laughable for that position.
Imagine working 10-12 hour days for $100 before taxes. It’s laughable

I literally made 10 bucks an hour washing dishes at a cafe 3 blocks away a few years ago.

I worked in a few kitchebs in Florida and guys would argue and yell that at each other

That's incomprehensively low. WTF.

What's minimum wage in your area?
