GI Joe never took off here, because the cartoon wasn't shown to the best of my knowledge.
There was of course He Man, Transformers, Mask, Thundercats, Robotech and Voltron, so no shortage of toy/cartoon tie ins/advertising.
I've seen the less common toys being offered for a fortune, so I guess the nostalgia value is strong.

Some did. I know a buncha rich kids that trashed toys I woulda killed for. Like the space station and air craft carrier.

I member going air conditioning as a kid since our house didn't have any on real hot nights and if you kept it together there was a good chance of getting a vehicle or a handful of Joe's.

Getting toys was such a great day

You were greatly denied a big part of being part of that generation and should sue someone

how fucking stupid of me NOT to keep these toys in mint condition....and rather, keeping some stupid ass football/ baseball cards in mint conditoin

I kept a lot of mine and had started to collect again but that house fire got me good. Guns magic cards gi Joe's and a million Michigan punk ska things that were not replaceable.

Man that fire sucked a dick

It was

Just behave at the store and don't over play your hand and you'd usually succeed

Chris you ever see one of those kids holding onto a bicycle wheel inside toys r Us and the parent dragging the kid who’s holding the bike. Lol

Then when the kid finally lets go the mom or dad would just leave the bike right in the middle of the aisle and get the kid and rush outta there before there was another outburst.

I remember just watching that in shock and knowing that I better behave or else I won’t get a toy.

Rup the cartoons being on was a major selling point of the toys.

Because you would have a toy that you’re watching on the show at the same time And you look at your collection and it made you feel cool that the toys you had were on tv. It was some type of kid accomplishment.

Hell yea I'd see those kids. And I'd feel bad for em cuz they didn't have a good toy hustle.

My parents didn't let me watch GI Joe because they felt it glorified war. But I saw an episode at a friends house and I realized it sucked anyway.

Lmao yes. You would stand there Eyes wide, jaw dropped hands to the side just watching in horror as some poor kid blew it and is now a crying disaster.

You knew you better not get too crazy in there or that kids sad fate could soon be yours.

Be quiet as a mouse and helpful if moms looking for something
Let her wander through the store til you get close to toys
Say when we're done with what your doin can we go over there
Search for the perfect guy
Hit the puss and boots face is needs be.

Do it at Meijer and target and Kmart and if all goes well 3 new dudes in the army

Also pray for a heat wave.

Then I'd go home and watch studs with my older sister

Did you like any action figures jack. Thundercats, Star Wars, He Man, Go Bots, MASK, Transformers

It was just that fact that it was humans that they had a problem with. But I tended to like comedy more than action stuff anyway. Transformers, yes, though. Until the movie wrecked it.

Musta sucked to be raised by communists

They weren't, really. Dad was somewhat right-leaning but not really political. Mom was left-leaning. Both very anti-war. My dad lost his big brother in Vietnam.

Ahahahah Chris. That’s exactly what you would do. As you got closer to the toy area you knew you had to drop the hint. “Mom can we go look at the toys?”

Mask rocked I loved the semi truck.

Transformers pissed me off cuz I wanted Joe's to fit in the vehicles and weren't big enough.

I liked Thundercats but never had the toys.

I was into pretty much gi joe and toy guns and new other toys wouldn't grow my collections. Did kinda like ninja turtles and had almost all of them too. Including rare ones like Ray filled and that samurai rabbit I'm drawing a blank on. I would pretend they were radio active monsters trying to storm gi joe town.

I don’t know why but I think you would’ve been a ninja turtles fan
